Well my newly acquired 2012 Cruze has surpassed expectations so far and the MPG keeps getting better.
1st tank DIC read 38.9 actual calculation was 37.5, next two fill ups DIC read 39.5 and 39.8 both actuals were 38.4. As it looks right now, I should be able to empty this tank with the DIC reading somewhere above 40 mpg.
For my first tank I will admit that I horsed it quite a bit (had to find out what the little turbo can do) but still got 37.5 avg., I settled down on the throttle a bit and changed my route to work which bumped me almost 1 mpg. Now I have actually started to do some minor hypermiling and changed my route once again.
Previously my route to work was primarily country roads (30 miles country/10 miles city) and the route home was 15 miles hwy and 25 country. My new route is about 35 miles country roads and 6 miles city and the route is reversed for the drive home. I am now driving about a 2 miles further each day, but there are fewer potential stops (stop lights and/or signs) which more than makes up for the extra mileage.
I am fairly confident that I can get to 45 mpg avg over a full tank without going too extreme with the hypermiling.
