Hoon's 600+hp 2.0L Talon

Sold this car right after i bought the cruze. I just didn't have the time or money to keep throwing at it. During most of its life i ran 27-31psi on nothing but 93 octane, making about 450awhp, which is enough to rape a lot of street cars in a 2800lb AWD chassis.

I added a meth setup but had issues with the MAF when tuning for it, was sick of the car and sold it. New owner fixed a few basic things and had it retuned on speed density with the meth, made a best of 503awhp on a low reading mustang dyno...about 540 at the tires on a typical dynojet. Big numbers for a small 52lb/min turbo.

If you correct for drivetrain loss it's about 630hp @ 8400rpm. No traction in 1st or 2nd on street tires even with AWD.

I really want to build another car but i don't make anywhere near the $$ i used to, and as i get older (mid 20s now) i have to save for things like a house, investments, etc. When i can afford to, the next build won't make less than 800whp, either a BMW or an LSx vehicle. Turbo of course.

I love hearing that power spool up with a big turbo. Good god the lag is annoying, but it's REAL fun when the power comes in hard.

I always wanted to buy a junker 850 and do this to it. Preferrably an AWD R, but eh.

370 TQ at the wheels. This setup was built to rev, not to make torque. it had massive cams, I have a heavily ported head, and a sheet metal intake manifold.

it went to the track once with a clutch that wouldn't disengage so it was impossible to shift it. Low 12s at 122. With slicks and a clutch should be upper 10s at 130ish.

The Laser, Talon and Eclipse's were really nice. I had a friend with '98 GSX AWD that absolutely murdered anything on the street (back in the day that it is).

As with any turbo car, it doesn't cost a lot to yield a huge gain.

What else did you have to do to the driveline besides a clutch (transmission, axles, AWD coupling, etc) to hold that power? Or were they built that strong?

As with any turbo car, it doesn't cost a lot to yield a huge gain.

Even to this day i believe the 1G to be arguably the best affordable platform for street racing. Evos and STIs are a joke by comparison. The only modern AWD that comes close is the GT-R or turbo Lambos. Slicks, automatic with the right converter, huge turbo, nitrous. 8 second street car.

I had a good amount of money into mine. $5K motor, $5K turbo system, then add all the supporting mods...but that's what it takes to make the power with decent reliability.

Sick Talon Hoon. I'm a huge fan of the 2nd gens myself (95-99 eclipses, 95-98 talons). AWD GSX & TSi, of course.

Those DSMs can certainly pack a punch. It's too bad those are so scarce around me anymore. If I could find a nice clean 98 GSX, I'd buy it in a heartbeat..
