I have done this in the past with cars, but not with the cruze. At 50% oil life I have on 5,000miles already, I usually change the oil between 40-50%(with the dealers Dexos fill). Now that I am running Mobil 1 I may still only take that down to as low as 30%. With mobil 1 the oil will be changed every 4months or 8,000miles.

I really don't pay any attention to the OLM since I want my engine to last. GM should have included the cruze in the recall a month ago to correct these overly optimistic OLM systems. Heck none of the cars they recalled even had a turbo cooking the oil. GM to reprogram some oil-life monitors - Autoweek

They have recalibrated te OLM on the 2013. I started out with a 2011 and it would try and push me to a 10-12 k oil change ( I never went that far, I know better). I traded it in on a 2013 RS and noticed that it will only go about 7K between changes. I still use full synthetic oil though, I had the GM dexos stuff tested once at 6K an it was about shot at that point.

Ive been changing my oil every 4k-5k miles. Im a commuter so I reach mileage before time (3-4 months). My OLM usually reads 50-60% at these change intervals.

So who else is an Idiot, like myself, and ignored the torque rating on the drain plug, over torqued it, and stripped the head!

At 7500KM my oil is Black! so I do both.
Split the filter on the oil change tonight to check for metal and anything out of the norm.
At 24000Km all is well. photo 1.JPGphoto 4.JPG

Our '13 now has about 9,500 miles on it.
First oil change was done at 2500 and second at ~9500.
Did UOA on both changes. Installed Amsoil SSO 5w-30 and ran for the 7K miles and it was still in good shape with OLM at 10%.

Awesome write up! This makes it so much easier the first time than going through all the **** sockets to find the right size, lol.

How far are people going on their break-in changes?

Break in change? I changed my oil the first time at 7500 miles. No metal in the oil or filter. Not sure why people think metal is going to be scraping off inside their engine. This isn't 1970...

I disagree about running that far on the factory fill oil and the results from my used oil analysis supports my decision.
