    Here's a quick challenge.

After looking at some of the proposed legislation for gun control by our government, I got to thinking about what guns would, and wouldn't classify as "Assault Weapons". I didn't read all of the proposals line by line, but I think I've got the idea of what they want.

Now let me bring in a couple specific firearms, and you can choose for yourself. We'll call them gun A and Gun B. As they sit, both would be classified as assault weapons. However, by removing the bayonet mount and reducing the clip size, gun A wouldn't be considered an assault weapon. Gun B however, would be a bit more difficult as it is equipped with several "assault style features". Adjustable stock, pistol grip, over sized clip, etc, etc, etc.

So here's the challenge. Please pick the firearm that's more dangerous in the hands of a criminal. Note: they're both semi auto.

Easy - rifle A as it's lighter and easier to lug around. It probably doesn't have as much recoil either which would make it more accurate when firing multiple rounds.

You sure? Rifle B most likely has a poly stock and poly heat shield as well as being shorter, while Rifle A has a wooden stock, which is heavier.

Rifle A will likely be more lethal at longer distances due to a larger sight radius using iron sights, but both could accept a scope.

I did leave it kind of open didn't I. In the hands of the average crazy criminal, either firearm would be plenty accurate at a distance. Having handled and fired both weapons, I can tell you that B feels lighter.

Edit: I just looked up the weight, and they are similar (within 1/2 pound) unloaded and without extra attachments (scope, bipod, etc).

If one knew nothing about guns, B would always be the "bad" gun, because it looks like a "scary" gun, and in the movies these are the types of guns used by madmen to mow down crowds. However, you can have a gun that looks pretty much like B and it shoot .22's. As such, it would not be nearly as effective as a one-shot kill gun as a gun like A shooting a higher power round.

That's exactly why I posted this thread.

Any firearm in the hands of someone with intent to harm is going to be dangerous no matter what it features.

I'm gonna pick: D - All of the Above.

I'm siding with MikeW, it doesn't matter what the gun 'looks' like. They all shoot the same, and are all deadly weapons. Yes, the slingshot too, lol.

It's sad, me and a few other guys at work were discussing the new gun laws trying to be passed, and I think we all figured about 4-5 different ways to contradict or 'bypass' each law being stated right now.

Best to just let the law abiding citizens own their weapons, government. Who knows, maybe one of us will save your sorry a**es one day.. maybe then you won't think too hard about the murders with firearms, and start also thinking about the killings/shootings that saved murders.
