As opposed to the 2012, only that panel on the right side of the vehicle is left. This car was parked about a block away from the dealers showroom, didn't bother him to open the hood. Still curious if that oil filter is in the same location.

Well, at least it looks cleaner than hacking it up. Still seems like it's just the lazy way out of the problem, but whatever.

Is this really a lazy way out of the problem, or more precisely, a solution to the problem? That red hot exhaust system is still between that oil filter housing and the ground.

There's nothing wrong with the oil filter location.

Compared to many transverse V6s there's a lot more room between the filter and the exhaust. It's also not directly above the turbo or cat, and even if it was, it still wouldn't be the cause of any engine fires. Nowhere does it say a fire or problem has been caused by oil leaking from the filter onto exhaust components. It's common knowledge that sloppy oil change procedures can lead to oil puddling in the shield, which can catch fire if that oil splashed onto the hot exhaust.

You seem to have this recurring thought that the oil filter location is somehow a safety concern, when that is clearly not the case.

I refused the recall ..since the problem is atrbuted to spilled oil I do not spill oil onto the shield .

chevy is changing a flaw they did not for see .due to human error oil pools on the older shields . I do check this shield often just in case oil leaks from the engine though it is a combustion engine . and they do leak oil.......a fix in design is just that .engine designs will not change much ..

Exactly, a few carefully drilled holes will be a perfect solution for the non-retards. Understandably, chevy can't take that chance.

I have more than one vehicle where the oil filter is above the exhaust system. And I have also had more than one engine that developed a leak in the valve cover gasket, which let oil run down onto the exhaust manifold. Never a fire, but sometimes some smoke.

^Same. My Volvo even leaked directly onto the turbo, and it never caught fire. Smelled bad, though...

Our old Toyota did it too.

My question is this if the Verano has the same engine shield as the Cruze why hasn't this become a problem for the Verano. Do Buick dealership hire better mechanics then chevy dealers do?

That cut looks like it was done by a drunkard. I have a cleaner cut on my Cruze.

The Verano's engine is plumbed differently so the exhaust doesn't run over as much of the shield and definitely not over where oil would pool. The real issue is the shield design itself was flawed. 1st - why make a under engine shield that can melt and burn (plastic vs. aluminum). 2nd - why make a shield that when sitting on level ground doesn't completely slope to the back where any liquid on it, regardless of viscosity can run off.
