    Cruise headlights

So far I have 39XX miles on my 6eco spd and love it. One of the things that I wish was different was the headlights. I wish the lows would stay on when you turn the brights on. A lot of cars are doing this now and I think it helps greatly with visibility at night. My gf's 04 pontiac grand prix does this and it is much better than my cruise at night and my car is spose to be better at everything haha (cept speed of corse) and my 07 vette does this also and has the best headlights I have ever driven with at night and love it. Anyone agree with this or is it just me? I drove a new focus in a parade last weekend and they have the highs and lows on at the same time when you go to the brights.

Is there a way we can make our lows stay on?
    Thanks
    Ryan

There is a good reason that you cant. The cruze uses a new kind of bulb with dual filaments, i.e. your brights and low beams are the same bulb. It does not take much to assume that operating both filaments at once would probably overheat the bulb.

You are better off with adding some brighter fog lights.

Dual filament headlight bulbs are not really all that new. My '97 Civic has them. You are correct that burning both at the same time will vastly shorten their life span, if not tripping a breaker. Oncoming drivers would also surely complain. I used to run Sivlerstars in the Civic and those would have drivers flashing their headlights at me thinking I had the brights on.

The headlights on my '65 Corvair were really feeble. I corrected that by replacing the high beam sealed beams units with landing lights from a Cessna. They were the same diameter as the stock car lamps. With 3 million candle power, I could light up anything remotely reflective 2 miles or more away (especially police cars!)

Ahh icic. I knew they used the same bulb for both lows and highs but I never thought of the heat issue with having them both on, but now I know!!

On another note adding brighter fogs wont really help as I like the low beam visibility with the fogs on, just dont like the visibility with the brights on (I drive a lot at night), unless there is a way to have the fogs on with the brights on at the same time, but I have never been in a car that does this, and I worked at a Ford and Chevy dealer for 5 years and did oil changes on almost every car on the road.

First i misspoke, its new that they are becoming commonplace then the exception.

2nd You would have to hardwire something with a manual switch to do this because all the lights, controls etc in the car use modern canbus to turn everything on/off. Like your door chime for example isnt a door chime, its a sensor that sends a canbus signal to the radio which then produces a chime in the door speaker...

    Freeking technology!

Also you could also look into a HID setup that would be brighter as well as brighter bulbs...

I was thinking this as well just was hoping there would have been an easier way lol. I am more of a mechanical guy and hate electrical haha!!

Also I did look into HID kits on ebay it was pretty cheap I think $36 or something like that, just was hoping there was a quick easy fix or change I could do before I went that route. Any one have experience with these????

I have to dissagree. The lights in my Cruze are the best of any vehicle that I have owned. I would not change anything about their operation. I have had to put HID's in some of my other vehicles so I could drive them and considered them in some of the others but alas they had canbus systems and are not happy with change.

I should clarify a little bit, I didnt mean to say that the headlights were bad, they are pretty good (a lot better than my previous 2 beaters, a 99 saturn and a 97 vw), I was just a little dissapointed that they are not as good as my gf 04 grand prix, and are nowhere near as good as my vette ( grand prix is halogen but both lows and highs are on at once, vette is HID and lows and highs are also on at same time).

I will say tho that with the lows and fog lights on the visibility is much better than I thought they would be, the fogs help a lot more than I thought they would.

Installed H.I.D kit on my Cruze and it makes such a difference, Nothing to bright jsut 6000k headlights, I left my stock fog light bulbs. Search of the thread "H.I.D Kit is in, Pictures" and you could see how it looks. Pictures were from a blackberry device so the pictures arent great quality.

    Thanks,
