    2012 Auto vs 2011 Auto

I'm picking up a 2012 LT Cruze this week. I had it for the day yesterday and compared to the 2011 I test drove (I drove 3 different models) it seemed like the auto tranny on the 2012 was dramatically smoother shifting. There was not the shift delays I experienced when I drove the 2011s. Matter of fact, the saleswomen that sat in the car with me commented this was her first drive in a 2012 and noticed how much better the shifting was. It will be interesting to know if GM did improve things for 2012. I sure noticed a difference.

I know the gear ratios changed for the 6AT. My 2012 LTZ shifts pretty smoothly too. I've been driving pretty easy in order to see what kind of economy I can get. It shifts consistently at 2K RPM, and you can hardly feel it shift. I'm not sure if this is a "learning" tranny or not...there was some speculation of this on the forum as well early on.

My guess is that they did change some of the programming along with the gear ratios for 2012. Getting GM to admit that though will be nearly impossible, they never say anything about that stuff. When the 2011 Cruze was intro'd to all of the dealers the product trainers told us there were going to be "customer concerns" about the shifting of the automatics but that it would gradually learn and improve over time. Basically they knew going in what was going to happen and hopefully they have found a way to program the tranny for decent shifting AND good fuel economy. Maybe some of the GM Techs on here can chime in if they have seen anything regarding this but on the sales side we have seen nothing specifically regarding any new programming. The shifting of the automatics is truthfully one of the reasons I bought a manual.

I really wish this stupid comment would just die. The tranny does not learn anything. The shift speed and line pressure does typically increase after a reset though, to the same parameters already set in the computer REGARDLESS of who is driving the car. The car cannot do something that it is not made/programmed to do.

All I can say is the 2012 LS I bought does not shift smoothly at all in the lower gears. I've been using the manumatic based on another thread and it's much better...just a pain though.

So now that we've got a few 2012's out in the wild, any real world mpg's with the new gear ratio's on the auto trans? I'm really curious as to the highway mpg's at speed (65 to 75 mph)?

My 2011 AT shifts smooth as butter. I keep RPMS around 2K. I still don't get what all the complaints are about with the 11s.
