They said my entire Parking Brake system needs to be replaced

Finally, after I went to another dealer with my rattling woes this dealer is actually replacing something under warranty.

This time instead of saying it's rattling I actually showed them that the P-Brake stops with the arm rest and that one brake/caliper locks and the other one is loose.

They said, hmmm, leave it here. Well, my wife called after 5 hours. They said the entire system needs to be replaced under warranty. I'm leaving it there for 2 days.

If this fixes my car finally, then there is nothing wrong with Thailand Chevy quality, just crap Chevy Thailand service. This didn't need to take 5 times and going to another dealer to be fixed. Especially since the morons who worked on it before were USING THE PARKING BRAKE every time. How come nobody said "****, the only thing stopping this handle is the arm rest. Maybe this is something we need to check?

What a bunch of idiots. Let's see.

See? And all that bashing on GM for a couple of dumb technicians, tisk tisk!!! Glad you'll most likely be resolving your issue!

I HAVE to resolve it because the wife hated every car we test drove. She loves the Cruze. Everything else is either not as quiet, not as spacious, not as planted on the road, etc etc. So my only choice would be to change it for a Civic, and she hates that one too.

BTW, the other dealer is very fancy. Aircon. TV with cable, you can make coffee or hot chocolate. they have snacks, newspaper and everything.

This one there's NO AC in the service part. Guy with grease in his hands comes out. Doesn't look stupid. Understands everything you say. There's no place for you to sit, and they are super extra polite. It felt right immediately to me.

BUT, we don't know that this is going to work. I suspect it will. Once they replace everything, the P-Brake and the Brake system is all connected. It HAS to adjust everything.

If not, it's a civic for us.

GM loses more customers due to the incompetence of "expert" goodwrench techs than anything else. When you find a good one, hold onto him and take your car there.

Idiots. All that hard work to produce a car to then drop the ball where it matters most.

It's like a Chef slaving over a Michelin star quality 4 course meal for them to leave it sitting at the window for 10 minutes and bringing it stone cold to your table.

Finally took my advice, hun? We have dealers like that here to, its normal, not covered under warranty, love the dey all do dat the best.

Not sure if everything has to be replaced, definitely the calipers, should also replace the rotors, believe yours were turned all ready and how much? Thin rotors go beyond the range that the calipers can adjust too.

Even doing most of my own work, been buying new rotors lately, vents are all rusted shut, have to be sandblaster and painted on the inside, then the cost to have them turned became outrageous. Cast iron is like glass, can't cut old glass, it hardens, but with rotors, have hard spots. Even paying retail, buying new rotors is cheaper.

Two days seems very long, worse part in doing a brake job is the clean up work, replacing with all new parts should cut that down to a couple of hours. If the console is stopping the handbrake, its stop is shot, agree with replacing that. And the cables could be stretched.

Under warranty, GM supplies all the parts and pays for labor, not what you or I pay, generally 30-50% less, but still covers overhead and actual labor costs.

From the eight Chevy dealers I could have purchased my Cruze from, picked the best dealer for service, he wanted my business, even gave me the lowest price. An old saying in running a business, better to make 10% of something than 50% of nothing, some dealers don't recognize this.

Well. It's because today they did the service, alignment and troubleshooting the brake issue. They'll order the part tomorrow. work on it. Sunday they close. Pick up monday.

Took my dealer five days to get a new power steering rack, was concerned about my wife driving the car, but the power steering didn't die on her.

Latest problem is goodbye 40 mpg, hello 35-36 mpg. Even though our fall has been tame this year, EPA goes by the clock with this winterized gas. Does it really work to reduce pollution? Can't find any statistics on it. Could try and get some friends together, buy or rent a tanker and drive down south to bring a load back. But if the EPA found out, could end up in jail. Then the city, only permitted to have a two gallon can of spare gas.

Asked my wife to call tomorrow and ask then to inspect the rotors. Might as well.

If this fixes your problem, go on-line and find a contact for GM Corporate here in the US and send them a registered letter complaining about your first dealerships quasi-trained monkeys. I'm not talking about the North American division - I mean the guys at the very top. The only way they'll clean up their dealerships is if they get complaints directly from their customers.

I suspect the reason this guy wants to replace the entire system is he want's to ensure there's nothing else hidden and this gives him the way to bill GM for a complete overhaul of your parking/e-brake system. The handle should only come up to about 60% of the distance from the down position to the arm rest.
