Some of the newer cars with turbo can almost stall if you apply too much pressure to the gas pedal.
That is what I disliked so much about the ford focus.
No you can give it as much gas as you want. However with the automatic full throttle would cause 1st gear/ the engine to scream to red line, 1/2 throttle would cause the car to shift to 2nd gear at 3,000-4,000RPM & accelerate just as fast without all the noise.

BTW last I checked the ford focus didn't have a turbo, it uses a direct injection 2.0L engine.

Lifetime: 10.6 cents per mile @ $3.73 average price over 52K miles

Or that the ECO gets it's MPG without being a hybrid. Both the low speed acceleration and fuel economy are conversation starters with people who don't know about the Cruze.

The Cruze has a nice balance between performance and fuel economy.

It will spin the wheels easily at full throttle in first. I usually do about half throttle, shift up, and then floor it in 2nd if I need to move quickly. First is also very short.

One other great advantage to the LT transmission is that it almost never feels out of breath in any gear, even 6th at highway speeds. You could stuff another transmission between 3rd and 4th on the Eco - the power gap between the gears is huge. But at the same time, there's the fuel economy benefit.

The 2.0l diesel reminds me very strongly of my old 3.0l in-line 6 cylinder Nissan Skyline - not screamingly fast off the line, but once she picks up her skirts she just whooshes past the rest of them.
