dealer or independent shop... for service?

I am very interested in taking a poll for all the Cruze owners here. Do most always take their Cruze to the dealer for service and scheduled maintenance, or do most go to an independent
repair shop??

I ask this question because I have a VERY well respected, honest AAA Approved repair shop, with Master Mechanics, that I have been using for ALL my service and all scheduled maintenance
for my 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS sedan with 64,0000 miles. I have been using this shop for many years with great satisfaction. Over the years, I had several maintenance issues with my Elantra
that was initially taken to the Hyundai dealer for service. On several occasions, the dealer was not able to find or fix the problem. I than took my Elantra to my trusted independent shop, and
the guys always found the problem and repair it!

So, I would like to continue to use my independent shop for all my service and scheduled maintenance for my future 2014 Cruze and only use the dealer for, of course, any possible warranty
related issues.

I was wondering if GM frowns upon that and encourages only dealer for all service? Is the Cruze a vehicle that skilled independent shops have all the codes for and I can use them with confidence
and not have to ever worried about voiding the warranty?

Thanks!

Greetings.
I have had my new (to me) Cruze for a week now, and so far, have been highly impressed! I retired my previous road horse (2002 Mercury Cougar/V6/5-speed) after pushing it to 248,500 miles. While it was still gladly taking whatever I threw at it, the right car at the right time came along:

2011 Cruze LT/RS
Silver Frost Metallic
6-speed Auto
45,000 miles (barely broken in...) :)
Stock as can be, but these things are exceptionally well-equipped from the factory, aren't they?!?

Looking forward to hearing about everyone's experiences and wisdom. Thanks for sharing

I'm wondering what people are paying for these now a days?

Its a 2012, and had 19,411 miles on it when I got it.. Priced was 15,997 Plus taxes and other things... You know how car dealers are..

So, the question is, did I get a good deal? I honestly think I got a great deal.. Considering what they gave me for my trade in as well..

So, whats your take?

Chevrolet Cruze Navigation Issue

After my last service at dealership, I started having issues with the navigation system in my 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. Though last service was only tire change from winter to summer, I am assuming that they have disconnected the battery and something went wrong with GPS.

The Issue with the navigation system are as below.
1) It shows the wrong time. If I configure the time, It will stay correct until I turn off my car and then it will go back
to some random time upon starting my car.

2) It doesn't save the previous destinations and other setting such as (avoid tall roads and etc. )

3) The cursor on GPS moves in the opposite direction of to which I am driving.

Initially I thought that it ran out of the internal Hard drive or memory space ( where it saves when you record the radio, saves the phone numbers ) but If it is the case, I dont know how to delete information on that.

Does anyone has any idea about this issue? Your help and positive response will be appreciated.

Thank you,

hey i drive a chevrolet cruze with a salvage title so the warranties are no longer valid...driving a 2011 chevrolet cruze LT1 1.4L Turbo with 26k miles and im swapping out the water pump out this weekend. any help with this task or a step by step instruction would be great!

i know it needs to have belt taken off and coolant emptied out...it also looks like a motor mount is combined with a few of the bolts that hold the water pump????, thats what it seems like but i havent done a detailed inspection yet??
if so, where is a safe place to put jack under motor to loosen the motor mount??

also does anyone have any knowledge of how long (how many miles??)the new water pump will last before i have to watch the coolant level every time i drive?? will it be about just as long as the first one or will new water pump last like a regular one should at 100k+ miles??

also is the water pump gasket enough?? should Radiator style RTV silicone gasket be added too?? if so, on both sides? or just water pump side or block side??

torque specs on the water pump bolts??

Hello all, my name is Michal. Just bought a 2013 Cruze Eco with 4 miles on it last Thursday and been enjoying it since. I've already looked in and around the car as well as under the hood. It looks like I could hide myself under the hood with the engine there is so much room to work on things. My previous car was an '02 Saturn Sc2 and it was just time to move on.

It's taking a little getting used to now having a turbo that spools so low, but it's nice feeling it kick in! After browsing this site a couple days I'm looking at a few mods I'll probably get done by the end of the year.

ScanTool OBDLink MX is ordered but on backorder, to use with the Torque android app.
Intake silencer is coming out when I get time here in the next couple days.
Drop in filter if I can find one in stock locally, might have to order online.
Lowering springs to squeeze out a little more fuel economy.
Looking at the Vermont Stage 0 tune down the road, reading around, it seems to give more power when you want it, without losing economy when cruising.

That's about it! Pictures always welcome though I'm sure you all have seen enough stock Silver Ice Eco's here.

...for the first time in a year. I figured I'd take some pictures for you guys.

As a bit of background, this was my first car. I bought this when I was 15 for $4,200 with 61k miles on it. A true grandma car, previously owned by a grandma who died of old age and her son sold the car to me. I drove it through college and replaced it with a Cruze after endless modifications. 3.8L Supercharged engine swap with headers, tune, intake, exhaust, etc. Fully custom front and rear coilover suspension, custom front control arm bushings made from g-body bushings, functional hood vents, 3.29 final drive, "racing" seats, etc. Wheels are Audi A4 Sport wheels, which I had machined to fit the center hub of the Regal and 5x115 bolt pattern (the 5x112 bolt pattern was machined out, and inserts were pressed in for 5x115). Tires are Firestone G019 Grid, 245/14/17. 245 is the widest tire this car will take as I'm under 1/4" from the sidewall to the coilover spring on the front as it is. 1/4 mile is in the mid 13s.

In any case...here's what I found when I pulled it out of the parking spot...

If you look closely, you'll see little trees. Those are actually growing out of the gap between the trunk lid and rear window. Seriously.

A good power washing and soap scrubbing later, and I finally have some good pictures of the car.
I have a very knowledgeable local guy with lots of hptuners experience those that come from the cobalt world probably remember Brian/area 51 from cobaltss.net with his tvs cobalt ss/sc. He is willing to tune my stock 2012 1.4 6 speed for a little less than if the trifecta group buy happens. He will also retune at no charge if I add mods after the tune and not before. I'm not looking for fanboys or vendor pissing matches, just accurate info to push me in the right direction. TIA David

Should now be about 10 days out from taking delivery of a brand new Holden SRi-V Cruze in Fantale orange (Model: MY14 Hatch). Can't wait, it'll be the my first actual new car (all my others have been seconds and hand me downs)..

Pretty excited to say the least. I've had a few test drives and I'm pretty impressed.

I'll be sure to post some pics once I take delivery.

See you round the forum!

Hello everybody on cruzetalk.

My name is chris and i took delivery of a 2013 chevy cruze 1lt ts 1.4turbo.
I have nick named her black demon to replace my old black demon of my 06 Cobalt SS/SC

long story short my 06 i tried to go swimming with on accident. water sucked up into intake and all inside exhaust and inside my car . lots of water damage my car only had a little over 400-500 dollars left owed on it from a loan i used to get my trailor. well insurance totaled the car out and so im off to my new venture of a cruze. but im going to try to buy back my SS/SC to make into a project car as it only had 92,000 miles on it.

but off to the good stuff now pictures

hope it posts pictures if not pictures are in my garage

Subjective Performance Differences between Vermont and Trifecta

This past weekend, I met up with Poje to get his stock suspension since he went coilover. Thanks again, man! We took the opportunity to talk shop, and the talk got around to tunes. He has a customized Vermont tune he's quite happy with, I have a customized Trifecta tune I'm quite happy with. Of course, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to see each tune in action. Our mods are similar. He has a K&N intake, while I have a resonator delete. His is an automatic, while mine is a manual.

Given the differences between the cars, the subjective acceleration between the two cars was about identical. Both cars pulled hard through gears 1-3. They also picked back up quickly after letting off for a corner. We made sure to obey traffic laws and speed limits during this time.

After experiencing each tune first-hand, either one is a fine choice. Both Vermont and Trifecta offer good, reliable performance gains. Both companies also offer great customer service, and have many satisfied customers. While there are differences in the tunes themselves, on the street they were not evident.

Myself, I'm glad we have two great tunes with great reputations! Kudos to Vermont and Trifecta for having great products AND great customer support!
