I just bought a new car in Melbourne, Australia.....a Holden Astra Sedan MY18. It's a rebadged Chevy Cruze built in South Korea. Other then being RH drive almost everything about the car is nearly identical and certainly the closest thing I can reference when working out what I need to do for my upgrade.
I have the 6 speaker setup with no no amp....so dash, front, and rear doors. There are no plans to replace the stock head unit.
I'm more concerned about SQ then SPL
The ideal end point is to end up with is to replace the front doors and dash speakers and set up an active front end as well as add a sub of some variety to round out the system.
I want everything to look stock and will be using the stock speaker locations.
The sub would need to take up the least amount of space possible as we use every bit of that boot(trunk) space and was a big reason for purchasing the car so I would be shot if I filled it with a sub and amps. Easily removable for those times when its needed could help alleviate some of that possibly.
The have a Kicker Hideaway sub that was in my last car that I plan to use under one of the front seats to help give me some decent tunes as the project moves forward but will take it out once a real sub is added to the system.
The tentative plan is:
Stock HU > Audiocontrol LC2I LOC > DSP (MiniDSP or Dayton DSP-408) > Amps (4 & 1 Channel or 5 Channel) > Mids/Tweets & 8" Sub
I don't really plan on using the rear speakers so will disconnect them at some point.
I have some ideas on a good 2-way combo but open to ideas or opinions.....I'm a bang for the buck kind of person.
Mids - Dayton RS180P-4 - 7" 4ohm Paper
Tweeters - SB Acoustics SB29RDNC-C000-4 - 4ohm Neo
Sub - Need some help here...prefer sealed for SQ and space savings...suggestions welcome!
I want to do some sound deadening of the front doors and boot(trunk) area but options are fairly limited here in Australia in that regard so this will be a work in progress and take a decent amount of research most likely. If any aussies can chime in that would be great!
I want to try and keep everything minus the sub in the cabin area (dash, center console, under seats) if possible again to save space in the trunk unless it's possible to mount some things behind the panels but I haven't removed those yet to see how much space is behind there.
Lastly, I live in Melbourne, Australia so I don't have access to as many resources as the US does so exchange rate and shipping for anything overseas can add up fast.
Any comments....suggestions.....and advice welcome! Any aussies with good Astra knowledge also welcome as the resources for that over here is almost non-existent.
I'll attach a few pics of the car which should look very familiar.
