Well, at least now my handbrake works properly.
To adjust the cruze handbrake I'd have to dismount the entire center console (armrest) to even be able to reach the adjuster screw. I do think it's the cable that needed adjustment.

Stretched brake cables is a common problem. I don't know why people feel the need to crank that lever up. :-)

In the earlier days. The adjuster was underneath. Some cars had the adjust right at the end of the cable that connected to the handle. The 2 tires hooked to that cable. Some cars had the adjust on one side or the other side towards the rear by the tires.

Personally. I like the adjuster right at the handle. Course, back in the day. It was easy to get to. Didn't have to dismantle the console.

Most drum brake self-adjusters don't work too well. I've only owned one car with self adjusters that worked really well, and that was my 98 Escort ZX2. My Jeep had a couple of things going for it in that regard. Although the self-adjusters required frequent manual help, there were access plugs on in the backer plate to access them without removing the drum. The cable slack adjuster was also mounted under the vehicle, just inside the drivers side frame.

BTW, congrats on the Fiesta ST. When I bought my Cruze, I was actually considering a Focus ST, which in my opinion, is the only version of the Focus with a decent transmission. However, the Cruze won out on room, price and availability.
