The yellow icon of an engine

Hi all I hope this is the right place to ask this question: I have a new hunchback cruze 1.4 turbo (drove only 1500 KM). Yesterday while driving a yellow icon of an engine appeared suddenly on the dashboard. The owner manual is not clear on what does it mean and how to handle it.
Thanks a lot in advance for any advise.

That’s a check engine light. The code needs to be read to determine what’s wrong with the vehicle. Take it in for service.

Thanks! Is there a way I can find out the code number and meaning before going to the garage?

Usually you can go to a local auto parts store and they can read the code for either a small fee, or free. With the idea that if they diagnose your car, you may buy the parts from them to fix it. I would call around and find out who reads “check engine lights.” To see if you can determine what the code is. Then you can look the code up, online. With a warning that the codes are generally pretty generic, and may just say something like, “underboost condition.” Doesn’t really tell you much.

Is this considered an urgent problem IE the car needs to be serviced asap or can it wait a few days?

Depends on what the code means, I'd maybe go out of your way a little to have it read and whoever's reading it will tell you whether or not to get it checked out asap, eurozone, napa, oriely, advance auto, these guys should all be able to help you

Thanks again, I can't understand why the error code itself is not being displayed on the driver's information centre screen..

Well now...that would be too easy.

As stated previously tho; I would def have one of your parts stores scan/read it for you. If they are like my local guys, they will even give you a print out of your codes to take with you.
