Could something else cause the battery to overcharge and cause the new battery to fail also?
I am quite certain that the hydrogen sulfide accounts for the massive headaches I have been having after driving for 2-3 hours in heavy traffic in Dallas heat!!! I have replaced many batteries, as I have 4 children all with cars! But this is a first.... usually the car would just not start if there was a battery issue! I will replace the battery tomorrow, but just want to make certain that I am fixing all the issues.

Replace the battery and use a baking soda solution to clean the contacts. Batteries do fail and yours sounds like it's at end of life. The Cruze uses a AGM battery.
