  1. 2017 Surging under light accel

    Gen2 Service Issues
Normal. I think the ECU is constantly adjusting for the best fuel economy which makes for a jittery pull up the RPM range. The best non-mod fix is use 91+ octane fuel and lower your expectations. There are 3rd party tunes available that should remedy this issue. YMMV.
  2. Manual transaxle diagram

    Gen2 Powertrain
The GM specified gearbox oil for this car is not inexpensive. Plenty of 3rd party alternatives. Make sure to refill with 2.5 qts. Pretty easy to change out. The only PITA is removing the plastic under carriage guard. Cruzestout: Gearbox oil and hydraulic clutch system are completely unrelated...
  3. 6spd MT Shifter Clunk?

    Gen2 Powertrain
Yep, it's a pretty crappy gearbox. Google "Getrag M32". I dumped the factory gear oil early on just because GM/Getrag apparently under fills these things leaving 6th. gear starving for oil. Sure enough, I only drained 2qts. Refilled it with 2.5 qts. of Redline MT-85. Didn't change shift quality...
  4. Two concerning noises

    Gen2 Service Issues
Took mine for the 2nd visit to the local dealer today. 1st visit they said it was seat shims making the noise. Um, OK. I asked that the tech drive with me this time around. He heard the noise, drove it a bit with a co-worker, came back and said that after consulting GM online that the creaking...
  5. Two concerning noises

    Gen2 Service Issues
My '18 hatch started making the same creaking, rubbery noise about 2 weeks ago. I plan on taking it to the dealer Thursday. Mine doesn't make the other sound you mentioned. 19K miles. I'll let you know what they find.
  6. ACDelco Oil Filter

    Gen2 Powertrain
I should've taken pics. Mine did not look like the one on the the link you posted.
  7. MT shift knob alternatives?

    Gen2 Powertrain
Spending a lot of time behind the wheel of this Cruze. Almost 13K miles in 7 months. Plenty of likes and dislikes. One of the dislikes is that enormous gear shift knob. I've done some Googles but can't find any suppliers. I get it that's it's not an easy swap due to the reverse engagement...
  8. 3 of the biggest quirks with this car(2018 Cruze)

    General Discussion
Addressing OPs issues: #1 - I have a manual trans. A ~crappy~ manual trans, at that. Still beats an auto ;-) #2 - Yep #3 - Waay annoying. I wonder how many AC compressors will go out right after the warranty expires? I'll add a few more but don't want to sidetrack too much: Can't turn off...
  9. No more cruzes to be produced!?

    General Discussion
Sadly, the Cruze is discontinued while the Trax is still being made - and sold in far fewer numbers, apparently. Odd. I think there's more to GM stopping Cruze production than sales figures alone. Yet more evidence that CUV's are replacing hatches & sedans. This all stinks for me because I'm a...
  10. Passenger side airbag light - always on

    Gen2 Service Issues
    Gotcha. Thanks for the replies.
  11. Passenger side airbag light - always on

    Gen2 Service Issues
My '18 1.4L hatch's passenger side airbag light is always on. It will indicate whether the airbag is on or off but it never goes off. Is this a 'feature'? My other car's lights simply don't illuminate when there's nothing too heavy on the passenger seat and it only comes on when I put a few...
  12. What did you do to your Cruze today?

    General Discussion
Took mine on a 600+ mile round trip starting at 4:10 AM today. Crazy amount of behind-the-wheel time. Even though it was a mostly 70 MPH speed limit trip, the car saw plenty of time in 5th gear. Even slight or long sloping hills upwards seem to make this car lug in 6th gear at 70 MPH. Yet the...
  13. 2017 Cruze Engine Noise - is this normal?

    Gen2 Service Issues
Sounds normal and downright quiet compared to my 9th gen Accord's GDI. That 2.4L of theirs sounds like someone took a carton of BBs and poured them in the crankcase.
  14. Goodbye Chevy Cruze - No more Manual Trans

    General Discussion
Yes, there are many articles online regarding the M32's 6th gear bearing going bad prematurely. Most of the articles refer to European car applications which makes sense - European drivers (used to, at least) prefer manual transmissions. Here's one article...
  15. Goodbye Chevy Cruze - No more Manual Trans

    General Discussion
2 months and two thousand miles in I can say "Wow...I should've tried the auto." This coming from a die hard MT driver. The crunchy, notchy box of metal that Getrag/GM calls as a 'transmission' (transaxle?) in this car is a downright chore to drive. Good thing I got this car for a...
