  1. Gen1 Service Issues
I recently had my front brakes done and the mechanic called to tell me there was a small oil leak coming from the oil feed line the feeds oil into the turbo, so I decided to have that replaced at the same time I had the brakes done. When I picked the car up there was a check engine light on and...
  2. Gen1 1.4L Turbo
Could use some insight on this one. 2011 Chevy Cruze LT 1.4 Have a P0420 and no other codes. Replaced plugs (looked to be a good burn), checked PCV system, changed oxygen sensors and replaced catalytic converters with aftermarket ones. PCV hose from turbo housing to intake was found to be...

It says that the solution would most likely be to replace the catalytic converter with new OE catalytic converter. Has anyone else had these codes before ? Considering it’s so low in miles what other solutions could there be that anyone would recommend ??
  4. Gen1 Service Issues
I have a 2014 Cruze LTZ with ~110,000 miles on it. My CEL came on at the end of October; OBD II scanner gave me code P0420. I took it up to Firestone, and they replaced the front O2 sensor and burned-out catalytic converter, as well as repaired/replaced the leaking head gasket and leaking...
  5. Gen1 1.4L Turbo
So my cruze is a 2013 with 119000 miles, i absolutely love the car but lately it has caused more problems than I can afford. Let me explain: So originally i had the dreaded pcv failure at the valve cover, at the time i could only change the valve cover, well it leaked very little in the front...

I have been diagnosing this for a while now, I have been getting P0420 and P0299 codes plus low boost (3psi) and a burned oil smell at traffic lights. Seems the problem is a clogged PCV port at the cylinder head. My check valve is still in place and my vacuum diaphragm was acting normally. So...
  7. Gen1 1.4L Turbo
Welcome to the house of Pain So I have been fighting with the CEL on my 146k mile 2014 Cruze 1.4t for quite some time and now I am at a loss. I have frequented the search bar throughout this venture and made some guesses of my own but I suppose its time to admit defeat and ask for help. A...
  8. Gen1 Service Issues
I have been chasing down codes and performance issues in my wife's 2014 Cruze LTZ. The codes I listed seem to be all that is left. P0420 (Catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1) and P0171 System too Lean Bank 1. The second is intermittent but the first is constant. If cleared, it...
  9. Gen2 Service Issues
P0420 This is a permanent code cannot be cleared with code reader. Will only clear if system decides problem no longer exists. I used CRC Intake valve cleaner as directed after one week I re-scanned problem has now gone away. My conclusion is that dirty valves were causing said code.

Been searching on here... change o2 sensors first, if they don't fix it then new catalytic converter (get GM brand vs aftermarket). Anyone have the part numbers for these items handy please?
  11. Gen1 Powertrain
I had the head gasket and radiator recently replaced. After driving about 1000+ mi, my CEL came on for a code P0420 - they replaced the catalytic converter and the downstream oxygen sensor. However, the CEL came back on after getting the catalytic and one oxygen sensor replaced. I have driven...
  12. Gen1 Service Issues
My 2014 Cruze with 1.4 is running fine but we had a engine light and there’s a P0420 code. Hesitate to mess with plugs given the trouble people have with plug boots tearing. Is there a way to figure out if it’s the plugs, 02 sensor or ??? I am going to replace air filter. I disconnected the...

  17. Gen1 Service Issues
Hi all, I've done a ton of digging here with no real answers. My apologies for bringing this one up again... So for starters, I bought this Cruze brand new, it's a 2013 1.4t 6m, all stock. I now have the P0420, P0234, P0299. The actual symptoms I feel are sputtering and what feels like misfires...
  18. Gen1 1.4L Turbo
Some back story: Mother dearest has commandeered my Cruze while we await her appointment with VW regarding the Dieselgate buy-back (she is refusing to put any more miles on her car, which I understand). In her infinite wisdom, she took the cruze to the gas station for a fill up, pulled up at the...
