Great to hear! As I was driving home yesterday I was thinking I would go 18K total and change filter at 9K if that was deemed appropriate. Is there a better cartridge filter than the WiX? Other than a bypass setup. I am going to research running the filter longer or a better one. 18K intervals is about 1 yr for me so timing is perfect. I am so happy with Amsoil and their products.
Wix is the best cartridge filter I know of for this car. I don't think you'll be able to do much better.

FYI I posted this on BITOG too.

2014 Chevy Cruze Eco 6MT. First time UOA, collected sampled after 75mi drive @ ~45degF, collected during drain. Oil history was factory fill, Chevy dealer fill dino 5w-30 3x, Pennzoil PPP 5w-30 (2x). Blackstone said universal averages on this engine are 7k, since I'm half that I would hope to see half the copper, but that wasn't the case. Everything else was about in line with half the universal averages. I store the car in winter, so that's why I run the oil for a year and change it before winterizing. Stock car setup, original air filter and I use the OEM oil filters (ACDelco PF2257G).

You're at the extreme lower end of the sae-30 viscosity scale, almost to a 20 weight oil. I suspect some fuel dilution but since Blackstone doesn't test it, we'll never know.

I recommend Polaris Labs/OAI next time if you want a more accurate and more useful report.

So glad I found this thread, I will have something to compare my UOAs to in the future. I just got a free dealer change so I'm going to run that for a short while but I'm planning on running an A3/B3 synthetic with magnesium/calcium additive package over my usual favorites which are heavily calcium based because of the DI deposit issue with high calcium oils.

I have 5 leftover quarts of Castrol Edge 0w30 made in Belgium from a somewhat recent Autozone clearance that will be my first run... Will probably run the OLM pretty low just to see how it handles my driving style.

I was helping a guy out with his WRX oil analysis. He posted his analysis for discussion on a subaru forum since it came back with high fuel dilution, and a member replied with the following:

Not only do they not properly test for fuel dilution, they don't test for fuel dilution AT ALL. They only estimate it, although his thought that Blackstone will estimate higher than what is present is false. Fuel dilution would have to be severe in order for Blackstone to flag it.

Yet another mark against Blackstone for oil analysis purposes.

Use Oil Analyzers Inc or find another company that actually tests your oil, not estimates it to save costs.

Do you still stand by this recommendation?

This was in Andy Quade's car, at 16,150 miles using AMSOIL Signature Series 5W-30. Filter change was done at 5k and 10k mles.

Mod list on this engine includes: CX Racing FMIC, BNR Catless Downpipe, Magnaflow Catback, K&N intake, Forge Atmospheric BOV, Trifecta Tune, pushing up to 23psi.

Driving conditions as quoted by Andy are "a lot of highway good amount of city and I beat the **** out of it run it to redline race and all"

The only significant flagged item was the TBN, and AMSOIL Technical Services had this to say about it from another analysis:

Oil Analyzers Inc (a private label for Polaris Labs) said, in this analysis report,

That would mean that this specific Trifecta tuned Cruze 1.4T, under these driving conditions, is recommended by Polaris Labs to go ~20k miles on an oil change before needing to be tested to determine *whether or not* it should be changed. Given the rate of TBN decay in this particular engine, 25k miles is not out of the question, but I would still recommend an oil analysis before attempting that as your driving conditions will vary.

One thing to remember: AMSOIL recommends only 15k miles in all turbocharged vehicles for engine oil as they are considered to be under the "Severe Service" maintenance interval. Not only is this a severe service application, but it is also modified to produce significantly more power than stock, and we are still looking at a Polaris Labs recommendation of ~20,000 miles on a change of oil before being tested again.

So, do you recommend the 5k and 10k as standard intervals for a filter change when using Amsoil?

I intend to change the oil at 94000 kms, which is shortly (approximately 32000km). I will refill and do a sample after another 30000 km. I as an avid maintainer replace the filter every 12000 km. I do notice that the media is starting to collapse at that time and I am not willing to suffer a bypass condition or rupture.

of note am still on the original air filter, minder indicates 70% restricted.
"minder"? Is this on the DIC, the filter or is it an add-on?

In the US, yes. Oil Aanlyzers Inc is who I'd use. They're a private label for Polaris Labs. Don't even bother with Blackstone.

AMSOIL Oil Analyzers Test Kit, UPS Pre-Paid
Looks like still Oil Analyzers is the lab, I see you provided a link for the kits, is it the same price/quality from Oil Analyzers or is there some other benifit to using Amsoils kit?

Wix is the best cartridge filter I know of for this car. I don't think you'll be able to do much better.

I am currently using WIX based again on your recommendation, still stand by it?

Pretty consistent, I assume this is the lab then.

What is the un-analyzed (as in I have not had that done) rule of thumb for changing the oil (again mine is Amsoil as you know). I am considering the analyzation route, but wanted this information to do a cost comparison of just changing the oil and filter initially with Amsoil and WIX, running to a certain mileage, changing the filter and then again after a certain mileage starting the cycle over V.S. using the sampling route.

Another question that now stands out, what would the average and then best intervals be for sampling or is that pretty much determined by the sample in hand by the lab?

Thanks for reading the ramble,

Robert

I absolutely still stand by the recommendation to use Oil Analyzers Inc (Polaris Labs). I've learned more since that post was made that only makes me recommend them more.

Filters can be replaced at OEM intervals. 7500 miles is what I follow.

Polaris Labs doesn't really sell the individual kits. OAI allows you to purchase them individually at a good price.

I still stand by and use Wix filters, in everything. I recently replaced both cabin air and engine air filters on the Odyssey and the Cruze with Wix filters, and I use only Wix oil filters in the Cruze.

Un-analyzed recommendation for changing oil is 15,000 miles. I would sample at 15,000 if you wanted to go longer. With the new formula, you can go 25,000 miles in normal conditions, even in a turbo engine. The sampling intervals will be recommended by the lab based on how the oil looks and will either be 3,500 miles or 7,000 miles extra before testing again.

Extreeme since Amsoil has the new oil filter out that is rated for 15k miles are you going to recommend that now over WIX?
Yes. It has a better filtration efficiency and lasts longer.

has anyone used motul oil on their cruze. i ask because there is a new performance shop opened next door to where i work and he recommends using oil from motul. they do make the dexos approved oil. he is claiming its amazing stuff, stays on cylinder walls after shutdown of the engine allowing for shorter warm up times along with better performance out of your oil. its about $3-$4 more per quart and helps with the life span of your engine. there is only one down side to this oil and that is it needs to be changed after around 3500 to 4000 miles.

has anyone used it or have thought about using it?

8% oil life remaining
9,287 miles on sample the oil
the oil and filter were changed a with a k&n oil filter and mobil 1 5w30.
Not bad. Could have easily went at least 15k miles.

the iron seems a little high compared to others. what do you think?
Not the least bit concerned given the miles. You can't compare your oil analysis report to that of someone else's, or even to a report you had during a different season.

My first oil analysis.

To preface, I purchased pre-owned, or as I prefer - used, with approximately 29,000 miles IIRC, I had the dealer do all but the last free oil changes I received with the vehicle. I ran out of warranty by about a month and that was the reason they would not do the last change. I do not currently remember where the next change was done, but I purchased Amsoil Signature Series from Andrei after that and am on my second change with Amsoil. I used two WIX filters for this run of about 15,000 miles.

I pulled the sample from a level vehicle with no OLM % left from the drain plug. I reinstalled the plug immediately after pulling the sample. I checked the dipstick and did not see an appreciable lowering of the the oil level, so I added an engine cleaner, ran it for about 20 minutes at temperature and then drained the oil. I then replaced the oil with a fresh batch of Amsoil.

This report is from the sample taken after the first batch of Amsoil.

As to the comments, I would not top off with anything other than Amsoil, one because I still have 3/4 of a quart and two, why?

A lot of the metals you see in this sample will be carried over from the previous oil. There will be quite a bit of cross-contamination in addition to some chemical reactions between the additive packages of two oils that might cause some leeching of soft metals. All normal stuff. I see nothing in this analysis report to be concerned with; the oil was doing fine and had you told them you didn't change it, they would have told you to run it another 3500 miles and test again.

As for the comments, those are all automated based on a database of information, which isn't always complete. Take those with a grain of salt. There are two recent formulations for AMSOIL Signature Series and that tends to throw off the flags for additive readings. The flags are really only there to help you understand how far off from the baseline that oil is, so they simply don't recognize the high magnesium levels or low calcium levels. Those were part of the formulation change.

All in all, everything looks good. Keep doing what you're doing.

I want to perform an oil analysis on my 2012 1.4 cruze. 99,000 miles. New head, timing, water pump, etc. I also had the pan off and completely cleaned the rods, pistons, and entire crankcase of almost 95+% carbon and crud.

My oil since I rebuilt has been changed 3 times in 2,000 miles just to get any type of residual crud out of the engine the best I could.

Each time I've drained the oil it has a somewhat cloudy very minor graphite look to it and almost a two part oil mix. Looks like two oils but not fully mixing together if that makes any sense. Maybe fuel or condensation in the oil. I mainly drive 1.5 miles to work and home. Maybe two 50 miles trips in the week. My catch can I installed does pull 2-3 ounces of moisture out each week.

So where to send my oil sample or where to order a kit to send off? I have the link to oil analyzers, inc. But do I have to be using amsoil to send it to them?

I use this brand cause I get it free.

Oil Analyzers Inc is one of over 125 private labels that are tested by Polaris Labs. Polaris doesn't sell individual kits last I checked and the OAI kits are a very good value. Polaris is also used by Cummins, Allison, ConocoPhillips, and Ingersoll Rand, just to name a few.
