I have a 12 Cruze Eco 6MT.

Noticed some issues with the 1-2 shift grinding a few months ago. There was a metallic whine around 30mph that increased as speed increased. Car had about 30k at that time. Filled with Amsoil Synchromesh as everyone said on this forum. 1.9qt came out of the transmission, I filled with 2.4 qt. Shifting did get better, but still occasionally would grind 1-2. Whine at 30mph was still there.

About 10k miles later, 5/6th gear sounds like marbles under load after it gets warmed up, after a long drive. Car still drives, but I don't trust it.

Took it into the dealership to have them look at it. They are having a transmission specialist look at it and will get back with me. They did confirm they could hear the whine at 30 mph. They could not recreate the 5/6 gear sounds.

Based on everything I've read here, they should be replacing the transmission under warranty. I will update this post with how the process goes so others in the future can find out how to resolve these issues. While the car still drives, these are tell-tale signs that the transmission needs replacing.

I had considered doing a Trifecta or BNR tune, but decided to wait until the warranty was up just in case something like this would happen. Car is still on stock programming.

I was informed that the transmission will be replaced under warranty. They said it was bearing failure.

I remember hearing about a GM factory tune upgrade for the Cruze and Sonic that added some extra power, but required an upgraded clutch for manual equipped cars. I thought this would be a good time to consider having it done since the transmission will be out of the car. Does anyone have this information and part numbers I can give to the dealership?

Got the car back with a brand new transmission and it shifts better than it ever has. Completely covered under the GM Powertrain warranty. Very satisfied with the overall process. The new transmission looks a little different than the old one as well.
