I would start with the purge valve - it is definitely bad if it's that audible; it's an extremely common issue with Cruzes and can cause issues starting, at idle, just after filling the tank, etc. Sometimes it will even throw a P0171 for a vacuum leak.
From there, see what codes come back if the symptoms continue.
