150K/10 year warranty on the Cruze Water Pump?

Must be, just received a letter from Chevy saying so. Usual information to those unfamiliar with what a water pump does, and tell-tail symptoms to help determine if the water pump did fail.

If it already did fail, and you paid to have it replaced, a form is enclosed so Chevy will give you a refund.

First time I have ever received a letter like this, and 150,000 mile warranty! Ha, would like to receive more letters like this for other common failures.

What did I do with this letter? I framed it of course.

I'm surprised a water pump warranty outlives all the other warranties on the vehicle
Originally it didn't. Due to the volume of all the failures with it they "extended" the coverage. My woes with the coolant started with the water outlet and the upper radiator hose.

Hi;

I spent $1,224.63 at chevy deal, for my 2011 chey cruze.

I have Warranty Solutions for my coverage, who said
the Chevy dealer was responsible for the work, because there is a 10yr/ 150.000 factory Warranty on the car

Chevy is telling me they are not responsible because the water pump they put in was after market.

I don't know who's telling the truth and I'm out of $1,224.63. Is their something I can do.

Thank, Keith

I'm confused, are you saying you spent 1,200 USD to get a water pump replaced on a Cruze? It is true there is an extended service coverage on the water pump. I can't imagine a Chevy dealership would put in a non OEM water pump. Even so, 1,200 is INSANE for a water pump replacement on a Cruze.

I interpret your question as: The dealer would not warranty the water pump because the one that was installed/removed from the engine was a non-GM part.
If I am correct, no, a non-GM water pump would not be a covered part.
In that case you would be asking GM to warranty something they did not make.

I will guess that a previous owner likely had the pump replaced at a independent shop at some point and was not aware of the warranty extension......so, that owner screwed themselves.

I hope the total dollars you spent included other services.

Rob

If you are the original owner, and know the pump has never been changed from new, it would be a different story

Welcome Aboard!:welcome:

Don't forget to introduce yourself and your Cruze here.
I was getting my snow tires off on May 1 when i realized my fan was running. I looked at my gauge and i saw that my car was running hot. I checked the fluid and sure enough - none.....so did the usual brought it to the mechanic and he told me that it was the pump. Now.....if if didn't have a friend that is the up and up on GM I wouldn't have known it had an extended warranty. So my question is how does one be in the know of these things if they don't get letters. Can you sign up for emails? Are there other forums ? My car is my investment and I want to hear about how the cam sensors leak and all the other common problems of the car.....My car is my investment and I want to take good care of it

They usually send out letters about the special coverages to the original owner of the car (I got several for my 2012).

You can also check the special warranty coverages for your specific car on my.chevrolet.com (or the phone app).

I was told I needed a water pump, this was on Saturday June 9th 2018. The Chevy Dealer changed the water pump, thermostat, four bolts(which I Found three bolts under the hood)and coolant the price was $1,224.63. Chevy Dealer called my Warranty company on Saturday and they were closed, So I paid the money and called My warranty company they said that there was a factory warranty for the car and that the dealer was responsible for the water pump, because of the 10 year/ 150.000 mile extended factory warranty. I then called the dealer and the said that they put in an after market water pump and the are not responsible. I don't know who or what to believe. but I'm out of $1,224.63.

Thanks, Keith

I think you should call GM corporate and complain. I for the life of me can't figure out why a dealership would not use OEM parts. Unless I'm missing part of the story, this job should NOT cost 1,200 dollars. In the meantime, I would not do any business with the dealer because the price alone is insane.
Hi,
Just called the dealer and they said, if I got it right, that they were not responsible to honor the 10 year/150.000 mile because the old water pump that they took out was after market water pump and they replaced it with a GM water pump.I brought the car used two years ago
so I don't know if the old water pump was after market.

How did you pay? If it was by credit card dispute the charge. First contact the Service Manager, then the Store manager if no results, Chevrolet Customer might want to become involved, and your last recourse is Small Claims court

Extended warranty on water pump is still applicable if you are under 150,000 miles.

Dig through your warranties section on my.chevrolet.com and take the special coverage number with you.
I am a PE for 40 yrs. Do all work on my vehicles since 1977. My daughter bought a 2012 Cruze LT NEW. She recently lost coolant and I checked it. Failed water pump. Pour water in the reservoir, it leaks out of the seal without even adding pressure. She used her AAA to tow it to the dealer she purchased from. Tsb says the customer is not to be charged. They said the water pump is covered, but refused to replace it unless she paid $3200 worth of unrelated work! Some warranty! She had to tow it home at her $80 expense. She stays home with her 3 year old. Ridiculous and likely not legal. Any suggestions? I will fix it, but the dealer skates?

Prices are ridiculously steep but stuff pointed out is all common leak points on these cars.

Replace the water outlet and hose. It's cheap.

The oil cooler is a pain to get to. You may want to look for the check valve in the intake manifold as a cause of oil leaks. Under the corrugated tube you should see an orange dot inside. If not, the check valve is gone and will continue to cause oil leaks. www.cruzekits.com to fix that one.
Go to the How-To section and you can find almost all of those issues and how to fix them there. Then perform all the repairs for relatively little money and then go back to the dealership for the pump replacement.
