2011 LT Air re circulation issue

1415 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  joes74challenger
2011 LT 1.4 turbo automatic suddenly stopped moving as much air as before through the recirculate mode with the AC on or off (volume of air being moved from vents on different settings is 1/4 of what it should be). if i turn off recirculate it moves air like crazy (as you would expect). any ideas what this could be? does this sound like a blend door actuator, although it doesn't make any clicking sounds like the gears are off sync. i'm stumped on this one, never seen this before.

Is your cabin air filter filthy as ****? Lol

i just changed the cabin air filter actually lol. i asked the wife if this started immediately after the change and she said no. i guess i'll re-check it tonight after work but i kinda doubt this is the issue. although the air filter being the issue crossed my mind first as it was a recent change.
Since you've changed the filter, I'd suggest you do a HVAC computer reset so it re-learns the position of the doors.
I looked into the issue and it was even easier than the fix blackburn listed....while trying to get the glovebox door off i saw a small garbage bag (the type you get from the car wash) shoved in the back of the glovebox. Sure enough the bag was blocking the air flow of the recirculate shutter. I honestly laughed at my wife whom i had going back and forth for tools...she then tried to say she never uses the glovebox. I distinctly remember going through the car wash recently and she put that bag in there...

Airflow has returned after the bag was removed. Lesson learned, I'm just happy we didn't take it to the dealership for this!

Ah those are the best. Mine somehow managed to suck up and twist a receipt into itself, which then blocked off most of the airflow. I guess there's a little bit of suction through the glovebox itself?

Glad it worked out to be so simple. As for the wife being responsible...remember this:

yeah....i never did get an "it was my fault" just straight denial. i'll be sure to rub it in for a while and give her a hard time hahaha.
i wasn't sure if it was a suction or she just crammed too much crap into the glovebox lol.
