I think I'd be inclined to use a old wire coat hanger to make a L-shaped tool to get under that disk and pull up. You might need a pair of them to pull on either side.

Never seen that type of separation before.......evidently the adhesive failed that holds the baseplate to the media.

Hook and pick set mentioned is the only thing I can think of as well.....you will succeed since the plate only sits in the base so the only thing holding it is gravity and old oil at this point.

The filter body can be damaged if it is not snapped into the cap and installed as an assembly.....beyond that, I have to ask, what brand is the old filter?
