2014 1.8 LS air intake problem. Need help!

I just got a 2014 1.8L LS. I was planning to install an Injen CAI. I already bought the intake system. However, when I was about to install it, there was an additional hose connected to the air box. Please see the pic below. This part was not in the step by step instruction manual. I tried searching the web, but I did not find anything. Even when you google up images of the 2014 1.8 engine, this part doesn't show up. Need help! Thanks in advance!!

To me that looks like a air pump for Emissions I don't know exactly what it does but I know it forces ain in to the intake to bring the emissions down. Just out of curiosity where do you live and what can you tell me about the car? I might be able to get some information for you.
It looks like it forces air into the engine through another route. I am not sure. I live in Maryland, and I just recently got this 2014 1.8L LS brand new. No mods done to the vehicle yet.
That is your air injection pump, I believe it injects air directly into your exhaust to reduce emissions. What's weird is that Injen didn't send you a filter for it. The instructions below are for K&N, but they sell a small filter for this location. You should call Injen and make sure they didn't short you a filter.

I looked a little deeper, because when I looked into the CAI route, I looked at Injen, but they didn't make a CAI for the 2011 1.8L naturally aspirated motor. Looks like they still don't.

That is a screen shot straight from Injen's website. Hopefully you can return it and get the right CAI, which looks like it will be K&N.

That's interesting, my 2014 LS doesn't have that tube. I'm jealous. I'm pretty sure it's for EGR (exhaust gas recirculation). Basically it feeds hot exhaust gas in with the intake air to improve your mpg. I wouldn't remove it if I were you.

In fact, you should just return that Injen CAI unless you want to kill your mpg. A warm air intake is what you want.
-Coming from somebody who gets 40mpg with an LS
It's an air pump that runs on start up to help with cold start emissions. Egr on our cars should be incorporated in the head/ intake mani like the previous ecotec engines. It's mostly seen in cali as a cali emissions component. Used to see them alot on the mustangs with cali emissions. Unfortunately idk on an intake. Idk if just running it to a filter you cause a cel or not. Maybe check on ( can't believe in going to say this...) a mustang forum and see what they did.
Ya I have a 13 ls and I have seen a lot of ls around here and have never seen it
Thanks everyone! I will definitely return it and get the KN one.

i find that hard to believe on both statements, i have to really baby my LS to get close to 38mpg going 65mph on a stretch of road in between towns, but the normal is 32mpg at 70mph but the in town will kill any gain and i will get what the epa says i would.

cooler the air denser the oxygen is=more power. not sure how warm air helps?
if thats the case i should be getting decent mpg in the summer, where we have temps above 90* but the car felt so slow. compare that with 50* temp car felt great on the same drive same shift points, etc.

gonna go look at mine, makes me want to know. and i have looked under the hood of mine before.

ok i dont see it i assume thats a good thing? and i found out eco car means, no under hood light or even a holder for a phone?
Is your vin 1G1PA56G or 1G1PA56H? Better yet, what does it say under the hood to the right near you right thumb if you were holding it open?

I seen the air pumps on the newer Subarus but not the 1.8's here that I rented. i always pop the hood on what I rent or get loaned to me.

Injen makes a CAI for the 1.8L but you have to look up a 13 cruze 1.8L
So a K&N 69 Typhoon Cold air intake will work, but you will need a Vent Air Intake for the Air Injector as well. I'm doing the same thing with my 2014 Chevy Cruze LS 1.8L. Which another K&N Air filter to fit the Air Injector is about $30 on Amazon.
