Hello,

I am looking for some input on if I should buy out my current 2014 Cruze lease and looking for your advice. My lease ends in April 2017
Car details :
2014 2LT RS Package 1.4L sunroof,premium sound package.
83,000 Km's
Dealer maintained without any issues.
All prices in CDN $
Buyout $12,300 tax $1600 new brakes front and rear $800 and certification $300 total purchase price = $15,000 (CDN)
Is this car at this price worth buying or or am I better spend another 10k and looking at a new Honda Civic? I put on around 30Km a year and not sure of the durability of this car and engine? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You could pick up another used one for cheaper, but if it's one you know the history of well and has given you no issues, that's also got some value to it. My parents ended up buying out a lease because theirs was a relatively hard to find combination and the car had been well maintained. To date, 6 years after that, it's still been the best car they've owned.

If you're looking at the new Civic, give the new Cruze a good look as well. I compared both and personally feel the interior is much more well done in the Cruze.
A lot of this is going to depend on how well you like the new offerings.
Hi,

If it hasn't given you any trouble I would hang on to it if you still like it, sounds like its been well taken care of. When I was looking at Cruzes there were quite a few in my area with high mileage 200+k km and still going strong so I think in general I feel they have decent reliability. As for the Honda Civic, its all new this year and personally I'm not a fan of buying first year anything (domestic or foreign) cause issues always pop up on first year models it seems.
If you drive a lot of KMs and you want to have the security of a new car on warranty, then I think you should consider spending to get another new car.

You should forget the sunk costs and look at this as buying a 3 year old 2LT RS Cruze with Sunroof for $15K Canadian (around $11K USD). That's a decent price for that car. But, you are buying a used car.

I can't comment on whether the Civic is the right car for you.

I had originally planned on trading in my Cruze about now, but I haven't seen another car that I like more than my Cruze, so I guess I will keep mine a while longer.

I have a 1LT so you need to deduct for that, but at 51573 miles and at a cost of $11,500 US, I would try and figure out the value of a "used mile" and negotiate from there. I paid about $12,000 usd for my 2014 LT 1.4 gas at about 24,000 miles.

So subtracting the value of the 2LT vs the 1LT and adding the value of 27,500 miles, does it compare? I know this is only one vehicle to compare to, but it is a start. I would also look at KBB and other similar sights as well, like Edmunds, Carmax, NADA, and others.
