Gaskets seem to becoming history, sealants are being used, like
[h=1]Chevrolet Performance Engine RTV Sealant 88864346[/h]Aluminum heads do warp, have to be tested for perfect flatness, if minor, can be resufaced, but takes special machinery do to this, needs practically a mirror like finish, because aluminum has seven times the thermal expansion of a cast iron block, needs to slide on the head gasket. And only new torque to yield bolts can be used to prevent future leaks.

Head should also be magnafluxed to test for small leaks, that cannot be seen by the human eye, average shop can't do this, actually the best thing to do is to replace it with a new one. If you also have coolant leaks, possible the head was overheated,
