Hi all, i'm Daniel,

I recently purchased a brand new 2016 chevy cruze ls in Aruba (Caribbean island) I been wanting to swapout the stock radio with a Apple Carplay radio just like I did with my Kia Rio. The issue is that it seems like the model being sold in mt county is a mix and match of different Cruze models. To startof, the body seems to be identical to the U.S 2016 Cruze limited. The radio headunit however seems to be odd. Se the attached pictures. Does anyone have any idea where this unit comes from?

The car seems to have been manufactured in Korea,

Thanks guys!

Welcome Aboard! :welcome:

Not sure, but that looks like a very basic model. There are plenty of radio threads on this forum, so take your time and look through them. Most are from the GEN I's but they may give you some valuable insight just the same.

It looks the same as someone who just posted from Dubai.

That's probably the key. All the ones in US/Canada come from US or Mexico.

That's the standard base radio for all non-Lordstown produced generation 1 Cruzen.

Thanks for the reply, it's a 2016 LS model, the base model I believe would be just the L version. The car has Cruise Controls and Leather steering wheel wrapping. I've been able to find Chinese android radio models and bank fascias for this particular radio model, but have been unable to find ANY information online on it's origins and radio wire harness. Like I said, I found a faceplate for it but no wire diagrams on how to wire an aftermarket radio. The Climate settings are also displayed on the radio's LCD when a change has been make to adjust the fan speed or vent. Will it cause issues if the radio is swapped for an aftermarket?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the reply,

Does it use the same radio wire harness as the 1st Gen US models? I want to swap out the stock radio for a nice JVC apple car play radio. I already found a 2 din faceplate, but I need help figuring out the wirering any ideas ?

Any idea on the wire harness adapter?
I would suspect it's different from the US headunit, but we have so few overseas members here that I'm not sure if you'll get an answer.

My best guess would be that you'll probably want to look for an adapter for a Korean Cruze instead.

Hi all, i'm Daniel,...

Thanks guys!
Daniel,

I think you will get more answers to your questions if you use the "Reply With Quote" option instead of just reply. This notifies whomever originally posted something you have a question? Otherwise you have to hope they remember to come back to this thread. I use the vanilla reply when I have a generic comment or want all to comment on something.

Keep in mind that much of the communication between the radio and the car is done via the car's computer bus. You'll need a radio or adapter that "speaks" the car's language. How well it does that will determine how well you like the install.

I dont wsnt to the Mylink, I want to install an aftermarket 2 din radio from sony or JVC
See my prior post. You're going to need an adapter that can convert the chatter on the car's databus into things your head unit can handle.

My car doesn't have onstar and any of the fancy features. The canbus connection on the current headunit is only to display climate control settings right? I don't care too much about not being able to see how fast the fan is in the car is spinning as I can see on the knob itself.

Some the functions of the GMLAN:
  • Turn signal sounds
  • Hazzard signal clicks
  • Warning Chimes
  • Turn on/Turn off
  • A/C settings
  • Personalization of the car (setting options)
  • Steering wheel controls
  • Coordination with the Telemetrics unit, such as handsfree calling.
  • Activate backup camera

There are adapters that do some of that, but I think they fall short on doing all of them.

I give up, I can't find any info on my particular radio...
