i figured it out. My 2016 cruse ls came with an old 2012 US Spec Sonic. I was able to find the right wiring harness and steering wheel controls to install an aftermarket radio like JVC or sony.

I recently purchased a brand new 2016 chevy cruze ls in Aruba (Caribbean island) I been wanting to swapout the stock radio with a Apple Carplay radio just like I did with my Kia Rio. The issue is that it seems like the model being sold in mt county is a mix and match of different Cruze models. To startof, the body seems to be identical to the U.S 2016 Cruze limited. The radio headunit however seems to be odd. Se the attached pictures. Does anyone have any idea where this unit comes from?

Correct, where I live (Aruba) the 2016 LS models come with the US sonic radio. I had a really hard time trying to find parts to replace my radio with a Pioneer Apple CarPlay Radio. After I found out about the sonic radio, I was able to find all the wiring parts and steering wheel controls to do so. I will post pictures when I finally get them imported. The faceplate is being shipped form the UK (ebay) the wiring harness from US (Walmart) and the Radio from US (Amazon). It's a lot just to install a nice radio, but the idea that my 2016 Chevy cruze has the same radio as the 2012 sonic feels weird to me, almost like it devalues my car
