i figured it out. My 2016 cruse ls came with an old 2012 US Spec Sonic. I was able to find the right wiring harness and steering wheel controls to install an aftermarket radio like JVC or sony.

Not sure, but that looks like a very basic model. There are plenty of radio threads on this forum, so take your time and look through them. Most are from the GEN I's but they may give you some valuable insight just the same.
Its a US spec chevy sonic 2012 radio. If you go to crutchfields website and select sonic 2012, you will find all the part you need. I spend months trying to figure ot out. I also have the partnumber for that specific radio of yours.Yep, this is the same as the one in my wife's GCC spec Cruze.

Are you saying that the 2016 has the same radio as a 2012 Sonic?i figured it out. My 2016 cruse ls came with an old 2012 US Spec Sonic. I was able to find the right wiring harness and steering wheel controls to install an aftermarket radio like JVC or sony.
In Europe (and Russia), all Gen 1 Cruzes used the same BYOM (bring your own media) MyLink radios that are found in the US Sonics (maybe the Sparks and Aveos too?). That is why the hacks posted online do not work on US Cruze MyLink radios. Are you saying that the 2016 has the same radio as a 2012 Sonic?
Yes.Are you saying that the 2016 has the same radio as a 2012 Sonic?
Correct, where I live (Aruba) the 2016 LS models come with the US sonic radio. I had a really hard time trying to find parts to replace my radio with a Pioneer Apple CarPlay Radio. After I found out about the sonic radio, I was able to find all the wiring parts and steering wheel controls to do so. I will post pictures when I finally get them imported. The faceplate is being shipped form the UK (ebay) the wiring harness from US (Walmart) and the Radio from US (Amazon). It's a lot just to install a nice radio, but the idea that my 2016 Chevy cruze has the same radio as the 2012 sonic feels weird to me, almost like it devalues my carIn Europe (and Russia), all Gen 1 Cruzes used the same BYOM (bring your own media) MyLink radios that are found in the US Sonics (maybe the Sparks and Aveos too?). Makes perfect sense that the Sonic's base model radio would also be repurposed outside of the US.
Sucks you had to pay so much to get things shipped, but glad you got it figured out!!Correct, where I live (Aruba) the 2016 LS models come with the US sonic radio. This. Sonic and Spark had the 2.o MyLink. GM decided the Cruze was too cool for MyLink 2.0 and we never ever got it for the entire gen 1 run.Yes.
So, what does the US Cruze have? This. Sonic and Spark had the 2.o MyLink. GM decided the Cruze was too cool for MyLink 2.0 and we never ever got it for the entire gen 1 run.
Not really sure what it's Officially called. Windows CE was what the MyLink 2.0 was but whatever we have is pretty much like what older Buick and GMC had. Most cars with 2.0 deletes the CD player and buttons so I assume they wanted the Cruze to suit older folks. In my 17 Accord I actually use the CD player sometimes. Haven't gotten around to moving some CD's to USB and Apple quality on some of the stuff wasn't good at all or it doesn't exist in their librabry. You see how horrible Honda radios were and the reviews dinging them for deleting the volume knob trying to make a smooth clean look? So, what does the US Cruze have?
