I saw a little story at Jalopnik that said GM will announce a new model Cruze tomorrow. I can't actually tell what they're saying.

I was thinking maybe a wagon. Or the diesel.
I would have preferred a coupe over my sedan. Who know's maybe a 2 dr vert?

man, on top of a coupe --- i'd seriously want to see the "RS" Package to be the new "SS"... maybe a 4-door performance rig (competing against Ford Focus ST?). SO, along with a bit of facelift --> have some real-world performance enhancements like higher HP, better suspension and transmission, turbocharged 2.0L etc!!!!!
Don't get excited. GM's announcement is that the Cruze will continue to be built in Lordstown after the 2015MY redesign.

No guarantee that there is a coupe, wagon or SS on the way. Just a new Cruze.
I don;t think you will see a new body style(s) until the refresh in 2014. The announcement is for the retooling of the plant and that tells me it's for new bodies.

+1 for the coupe. And that is one cool green :) fingers crossed!

'GM announces 270 hp 2.0T an optional engine for the 2014 Cruze'.

^^^^Would be sick!

Especially since the 2014 Sonic RS will have the new Opel 1.6T with 220 ft-lbs of torque.

A 2 door coupe would be great to see love the green version. I believe GM is leaving the SS emblems for High Performance cars only that have V-8s in them. I asked my Salesman who has been with GM for so many yrs and he said that they need to get away from installing the SS emblems on smaller cars and to stop it also on there SUVs which was a mistake. They had a meeting about this early this year and they will place the SS on a few models only. There were Camaro SS and Impala SS however they said they made a mistake when they added it to the Cobalt version which will never happen again time will tell.:)

Sort of like a Dodge Omni Shelby. You can't be serious.

I've driven both the 5.3 Impala SS and the 6.0 Trailblazer SS. Boy do those vehicles move! Very deserving of the SS emblems if you ask me.

Search YouTube for the owners that put superchargers on both.. lol. You will instantly retract that statement. Goes for the Cobalt SS owners that are getting 400 at the wheels as well.. lol.

The Cobalt SS with the turbo was VERY worthy of the badge, and I hear the Supercharged SS was as well. Problem is they built normal aspirated Cobalt SS models that should have been badged RS.
i was told that A-Spec cruze and sonic will be built. as a limited production. almost like the RS

Dammmit!! I lose touch with the 1.8 world just in time for its brother motor to bring all the turbo and performance parts i wanted to North America.

The turbocharged SS cobalts were a great piece of car. The supercharged version was ok as a sport compact, but a major disappointment once the turbo models had come out.

+1 for coupe

The Cobalt SS turbo was more worthy of the SS badge than most cars that have ever worn it. It would run circles around the vast majority of them on the Nurbergring.
Now I've read the announcement has been postponed and something will be coming from the union office this afternoon. Apparently the announcement wasn't about a new variant of the Cruze that would begin production right away, but only to announce the Lordstown plant would remain open and building Cruzes when the model is redesigned for 2014. Here's another link.

GM to launch new global platform with next Chevy Cruze, sources say

The platform carries the internal GM designation D2XX.

The redesign will feature "new exterior and interior styling, improved fuel economy and an improved interior compartment and more storage space," GM said in a statement.

GM is likely to consider adding a body variant or two for the next-generation Cruze, including a hatchback and possibly a coupe. GM already has confirmed plans to build a diesel Cruze, which is expected to reach the market in the second half of 2013.
