Hi,

my car was broken into last night. My window which was smashed as replaced and also the AC/Heat knob was busted as well. According to the dealer it's $390 to replace because it needs to be reprogrammed.

I honestly don't believe it.

Can anyone shed any light on this? or should I go to a different place?

It's a 2014 Cruze LT.

Insurance - Comprehensive Claim. The knob is part of the heater control unit, which has to be programmed when installed.

Have you looked at Rockauto for this switch? Is this the manual HVAC or the automatic? I remember the manual switch being relatively cheap, under $50.00.

It's possible that maybe it needs programming but I would be inclined to try a manual one. I would think the programming would reside in the Body Control Module, vs the actual switch assembly, but anything is possible.

Obermd has a good point. A window, HVAC controller, and shift knob? Could this be more than an insurance deductible? I'm guessing your facing a $500 deductible with about $475 worth of damage?

The window alone is probably more than your deductible.
