I had an interesting thing happen this afternoon.
I had been running the AC for quite a while & at a stop I heard a racket under the hood.
Turned the AC off & it went away.

Two hours later I drove the car, turned the ac on, & no noise.
Could the ac be low on freon?

Amount of freon in the system won't make a noise.

You've likely got a compressor problem. Should the noise continue.

That's what I can't understand. If it is the compressor wouldn't I hear the noise every time I turned on the ac? I can can turn the car off & let it sit for a couple of hours then drive it turn on the ac & there is no noise.

Want to bring this post up to date. The cooling fan & shroud had to be replaced. According to the Chevrolet Dealer Shop that did the repairs, the noise I heard was the fan trying to come on after I had driven the car long enough for the coolant to reach a certain temp.
