Was talking with my son on this issue, first high deductible has skyrocketed, then this year premiums have. With a three year old kid that was unfortunate to have diabetes one, now his insurance company is putting limits on the amount of prescription drugs they will be paying for. And even telling his doctor what they can and cannot prescribe for medications.

The way those crooks in Washington DC set this up, is if you are above the poverty wage, you have to pay through the nose of healthcare, that even puts you below the poverty wage, But this doesn't count. The with this stupid Schedule A, can only deduct above 10% of your out of pocket expenses so end up paying extra income taxes on top of this.

He wrote to his congressman about this, tough luck was the reply. So much for representatives of the people. We have crooks running OUR country, time to rebel.

Tilting at windmills. If it has anything to do with the medical field or profession, you can forget it being anything but expensive. Unless it's a single payer system (and I'm not sure the UK's system is what we want) you're going to pay through the nose for it.

Oh, you are going to pay through the nose if it is single payer too.

I have a Swedish friend. While he appreciates his home country's cradle to grave system, he says that his taxes were nearly 60% of his salary.

You see it in Canada. In Alberta, if you can hold a shovel, you can make $15 an hour (which is still like $13 USD), but everything costs more.

Our old system was horrible. If you want to be self-employed but have a pre-existing condition? [Forget] you! No health insurance. Now you can get it through the exchanges, but "Affordable" might be somewhat of a misnomer.

Funny little switch, isn't it. We drove up everyone's rates so that a few people could have health insurance, but in doing so, we made it unaffordable for more people than we intended to help, who now no longer have health insurance. Not only that, but they now have to pay a fine for not having health insurance, and guess who foots the bill for their care? Those of us who do, because we pay the elevated prices.

Just one step closer toward socialism. Forcibly take from those who have and give to those who don't.

Remember when Obama said our insurance would go down $2500 a year for a family? Remember when he said we could keep our plan, and our doctor?

Back with the old system, my deductible was 1/3 of what it is now and my rates were at least 25% lower. You want to know why this happened? Because it wasn't enough to create health care reform that simply addressed pre-existing conditions, he had to add in a few thousand pages of regulation and add things like paid birth control and contraceptives by employers. Obamacare was not just about pre-existing condition coverage.

But it is affordable - if you're earning so little that you can get subsidized by the government. For the rest of us it's more government interference raising prices. The two areas in the US that have seen prices go up far faster, and in some cases up to 10 times the rate of the overall cost of living, are education and healthcare. These are the two areas that have had the most interference by the government.

Every one complains but no solution.... same old same old
Yes, because if we don't have a solution, we should instead just make it worse. On purpose. Passing a law we never even read.

Clearly, a bad solution is better than no solution (sarcasm).

Almost everyone in my town is on SSDI, our Mayor was even on SSDI. With that many get free food, subsidized rent, free health care, and free money to purchase their drugs or whatever they want, makes me sick. I have heard these Obamacare plans can come with deductibles of $3000 or more. I was lucky to enter Federal Service and lasted 6 years. Worse job I ever had. I was able to take an early retirement, and my $500 Blue Cross plan only costs $200, goes up a dollar or two a year. By accepting everyone in the system regardless of pre existing conditions has changed the whole dynamics of health care and medical insurance. Its almost a Ponzi scheme similar to the late Billy Mays auto warranty program, regardless of how old your car was or how many miles it had on it. What's worse, Billy had a health plan too based on the same principles of todays Obamacare minus the subsidies. Again almost a Ponzi scheme. Our health care system has suffered and is getting worse. On the bright side my local E.R. that is free for the SS people charged my insurance $1600 for an ER visit and my insurance only paid $600 because the hospital ER was "out of network". Now this is illegal and they only charge $600 after insurance. The quality of care has suffered and will only get worse as the cost goes up.

Could console my son in the respect, they can't no longer kick my grandson off his insurance policy due a precondition. And it not that he is breaking the bank of his insurance company even with super high premiums, just takes my grandson in once every three months for a short visit, review of records, and a couple of blood tests. And since he has the high deductible, this has to be paid out of pocket.

What shocked me is now his insurance company is putting limits on what they are going to paid for his medical supplies. And this is the key problem.

"Research shows that prescription drug or medicine prices in the United States are among the highest in the world, including other developed countries."

As one example of this, our grandson stuck in Venezuela needed a medication that is not even available in that hellhole. We could not fill it here because they don't recognize a doctor outside of our state. But if we did, would cost us 100 dollars. But my wife was able to get the same exact prescription filled in Colombia for $3.50! Even while in Italy, my wife could buy a cream without a prescription from their drug stores, here have to pay a doctor 400 bucks to get that same prescription, but we live in the land of freedom.

Turning the clock back less than 40 years, didn't even need health insurance, could see any specialist for five bucks, a night in the hospital was 30 bucks including food, house cleaning, and nurses. Today that same exact room is $3,500.00 per night!

If you don't have health insurance, a simple accident requiring some bone setting can cost more than what your home is worth, and if you don't have it, will take away your home!

Son was also telling me about his father-in-law, had a knee replacement about five years ago, was fully covered by his health insurance. But he needed his other knee replaced as well, but held off. Now its going to cost him a small fortune. Like $6,300.00 extra. This is how things changed in just the last couple of years.

If your deductibles are increasing every year why don't you look for a new insurance plan? My work actually improved there offerings for their health plans since obamacare came out. They now offer two plans, the cheaper plan has a high deductible($6000) and higher co-pays, and cost $90 month for an individual. For $160 a month you get a no deductible plan with much cheaper co-pays.

If one did the math the more expensive plan pays for itself once you figure in the deducible. A similar plan on the obamacare website was over $400 a month!!!! glad my work pays for allot of that cost!!!

Be glad that he has coverage. Diabetes is almost always considered a pre-existing condition. Without the changes in health care they could be sol on a very, and increasingly expensive life-long condition.

The main problem with health care as well as life in general is this...Everyone is NOT equal. Like it or not, it is an absolute fact. We live our lives different, spend different, save different. Two people, same job and same wages, one can die a millionaire the other can die penniless and need welfare because he's an idiot. Want proof? Tell me how many congressman, senators and presidents have Obamacare? Tell me how many wealthy people have it? The ACA is simply this, a welfare program to buy votes. It was NEVER anything more than this. A program for the democrats to buy votes of the poor. And in a capitalistic society, there are more poor than rich. That's the way it works. Everyone can't be rich, everyone can't be the boss. Everyone won't take the same risks in life that may be highly rewarded. So if a party can have the majority of the poor people dependent on this or ANY other life needed program, they have voters for life. The ONLY way to treat people equally is if someone pays for the inequality...ie...is screwed/forced into working for someone else's benefit. Someone who DID NOT earn it.

It is simple political science. Just read up on Selectorate Theory.

The fundamental premise in selectorate theory is that the primary goal of a leader is to remain in power. To remain in power, leaders must maintain their winning coalition. When the winning coalition is small, as in autocracies, the leader will tend to use private goods to maintain the coalition. When the winning coalition is large, as in democracies, the leader will tend to use public goods to satisfy the coalition.

We've all made mistakes like that before.......even after you were certain its what you wanted to say before you click submit. Which is usually the microsecond you notice it..just as the button is pressed.

At least this forum allows for unlimited revisions without 'timing out'. Some forums give you an hour, some allow for 10 minutes.
