Never tried one of those,
but I have used this one:

And it is AMAZING. It lasts awhile, and when it runs out, you can refill it.
I gave one of these to a friend who had a big dog smell problem.

No problem now.
Sure tiny little things, just hiding the odor or getting rid of it, submarines use a ton of carbon filters. Fresh air intake works great driving through the woods in Northern Wisconsin, but sucks when driving on a hot windless day on the Dan Ryan in Chicago.

I bought a filter-less Ion Air purifier for the home and it seems to work good. Always be careful of devices that create Ozone as they are NOT safe. My Doctor runs them even around his children after poop accidents and I have warned him about. Everything points to danger using one and you can smell it when its on. With mine unless you look into the opening as the ultraviolet light is bad for your eyes it is safe to use

I don't know that particular model, but I've had similar ones and they work well. I don't know wether the benefit is because the ozone overpowers your nose or if it truly kills odors.

I think its a combination of both as they use Ozone devices in Hotels and other areas where a smell is to be removed. Too many people are using these commonly sold units and are unaware of what they are. Everyone should read this if there's any doubt?

Negative ions and ozone are two different things. Creating it is just a matter of voltage. Too much and you get ozone which has a distinctive smell. If you can smell it, avoid it.

Besides, negative ions clear the air of dust and such. I'm not sure as they're effective on smells. Different things. I think you'd want something more on the chemical side that absorbs odors. (Not to be confused with air fresheners that have their own smells.)

What's funny, is that I had an "air purifier" salesman a few years ago tell me that his ozone creating machine would actually HELP people with asthma, and proceeded to tell me that one family he'd sold 2 units to had a son that no longer had problems with his asthma, so they'd travel with one and leave the other at home. YIKES!

I have a portable ionizer similar to this one that I bought on ebay, and it works ok.
If you need a smell gone throw a bowl of charcoal in the car, and add an air freshener elsewhere....charcoal absorbs smells/moisture and freshener....well freshens the scent.
