are the Trifecta issues fixed for new orders?

Plan on using xmas money on a tune, but all the threads with the issues with trifecta new tune I'm kinda worried about plopping my money down on it. I wasn't sure if all bugs worked out or if would have to wait on tune then if issues wait on tune. Also is it on handheld now or still need to buy a cord? Would my money be better spent on Vermont tune or anyone from Cobalt world the famous Area 51 HPTuner is local to me here in Kansas City. Just wanted opinions on what others would do

I would buy a different tune. Trifecta really messed up the tune imo. The mpg really dropped after I updated and the throttle response is terrible. Barely pressing the gas pedal causes the car to think you want 60% throttle. I ended up switching back to the old select-a-tune.

I'm looking at switching over to vermont tuning as well, after a lot of research and back and forth with brian that is the route I will be taking.

Hey Guys,

We have most definitely addressed the 'touchy throttle' issues that initially were a problem upon launching the new more powerful update. Everyone that we issued a revision to was happy with the updates. Those who's calibrations required more finessing let us know this, and we were happy to oblige.

We have noticed that the reality is, that most people (every 14 out of 15 customers) are happy with the calibration as it stands.

I have stated this in other threads and via PM's: if you are not happy please let us know and we will do everything possible to work it out :)

I noticed that you never got back to us after we issued you the second revision. I see you downloaded the file though. We were expecting more feedback from you to see if we needed to revise it again.

Thanks,
Michael

That's because the tune is still not right. The last two tunes I was sent make almost no power. Just to drive at 65 mph on the highway I have to drive at half throttle and in 5th gear. I ended up going back to stock just to save on gas. My mpg went back into the mid 40s just by switching tunes. I unfortunately don't have my original select-a-tune file anymore so now I'm stuck and not happy.

I just really think this new PAL tune system is far too aggressive to get good gas mileage out of it. The performance is fantastic but I'm not willing to give up 5-7 mpg to have a little more power. I think Trifecta needs to have a separate tune for people who like select-a-tune. I just want a tune that has a linear throttle response and that I can switch on and off like before. The throttle response on the new system is way too sensitive.

I was leaning towards VTune because by the time get a cord not much difference, and with people getting messed up tunes i could never buy the cheaper version with no support or retunes. It would of took a huge discount new years sale for me to go Trifecta since all issues don't seem to be ironed out. 1 good thing about this site people can state opinions about vendors unlike cobaltss.net and srtforums they ban people even if tell the truth about a bad vendor experience. Any HPTuned guys have any feedback? I need to add some fun factor to the Cruze too keep from buying another new car, after having cobalt ss, srt-4, G35, TBSS, ITR just to name a few I'm not used to something so slow! Also i have 6 speed manual should i start a new clutch fund too?

Michael, after driving with new tune for a while I don't feel I have a touchy throttle really anymore. I think most of us were use to pushing harder to get moving so you have to change how you drive the car. Kind of like if you had V6 truck then went to a V8 you would have to change how you give it gas.

The only thing that is see is when at highway speeds like say 70 it feels the turbo is loaded already and my gas mileage is suffering some. Only about 3-4 but definitely a little less. Just giving it a little more gas and its at 80 like nothing. That seems a little to aggressive.

I also wouldn't mind with soft throttle at slow speeds it would shift a little quicker since it has the power to move fine in 6th at 40mph.

I have sent in my logs, just waiting for a response.

Well, we are definitely willing to work with you. We want all our customers to be happy :)

I escalated your case to an engineer who is writing you an update as we speak. You should be receiving an email any minute with a revision more in line with what you wanted.

Thanks,
Michael

Got my updated tune today, installed it after work. While I didn't feel that initial smash of boost to my face like the select a tune did, its more of what I'm looking for and am happier to be driving something fun again! Only drove around for about 15 minutes, but was getting used to the pedal travel, definitely a difference but so was their other version. I'm sure it'll be easy to get used to this one just like the last tune they put out. The power seems to have a MUCH smoother powerband, and at first would rev up to 4k rpm, but after driving it for a few miles it started to go down to about 3.5k-low 3'ish until it would upshift. The install took about 9 minutes with the transparency option enabled. Much quicker than the last tune! Can't wait to drive to work tomorrow so I get to try it out again, I need to look up how to datalog so I can make sure everything is ok, feels good though! Thanks for the quick reply, and the excellent update so far!

I have had no problem with my tune so far, with over a month on it. On my car the mileage difference is negligible and even if it did drop quite a bit, I wouldn't mind. The tune delivers more power and makes the car fun to drive. It's a completely different car once you install it. At this point I'm no longer worried about pulling 46 mpg out of the car, and am more concerned with having a fun and engaging driving experience and a car I WANT to drive.

If MPG is all that mattered to me I would never spend the money on a tune and leave it stock. I get people are used to having their cake and eating it too and many want to do that, but it's not always 100% possible. 30+mpg is still sport bike levels of gas mileage, I say install the tune turn off the DIC and enjoy the car for what it is. Too much staring at the ECO tab or instant MPG on the other pages will drive you mad. I did it for most of the time I've owned the car so far but realized I'm kinda missing the point, rather than focusing on driving and enjoying the car I'm staring at a little bar going up and down.

It was nice pulling 46mpg and bragging to everyone at work, but honestly I don't even think about it anymore. If I ever feel bad about MPG loss I look at our Terrain or my friends cars, and feel better again.

I installed another updated tune and it feels better with better mpg as long as its a flat road but I just can't stand the non linear throttle response. 25% throttle is causing the engine load to shoot to 80%. Just barely pressing the gas is the only way to drive normal. Anything past half throttle is really 100% engine load. I just don't understand why anyone would want a non linear throttle response.

I originally installed the tune to maintain my mpg and to add more power. The original select-a-tune did that and was great. The throttle response w's great and I had a choice to be in eco mode or full power. This new system doesn't do that anymore.

I definitely understand where you are coming from. I was looking forward to having the select-a-tune myself and was kinda disappointed when it was replaced by PAL. I liked having the control to know 'it's always on' or 'always off' and not have the ECM constantly 'guessing what I want to do with the car', if that makes sense.

I am sure they can get your tune straightened out, I know the the throttle response/input was a pretty common complaint around here and they got that sorted rather quickly from what I could tell. If not there are other options and I am sure you will find one you're happy with. Just was mentioning earlier to remind everyone not to lose sight of enjoying the car, but then again if your throttle feels completely wrong to you, you won't be enjoying the car anyway. :) I hope you get it sorted soon!

Point blank if y'all had do it again would order Trifecta again not much cheaper than Vermont tuning with cord eveb though i think i know someone can borrow one from. Still considering HPTuner because is cheapest option which isn't always good but it's someone i trust.

Even though I would of liked to test the select a tune version of Trifecta. The pals system has saved my butt a couple of times pulling into traffic only to find that someone was going way faster than you thought they were. Opening up the throttle kicks the car into beast mode and quickly gets up to speed.

Do you know Brian aka Tsi aka Area51 from KCSR he had the fastest Cobalt SS/SC with tvr blower on it? He has tuned 100s of cars in KC and surrounding area. He is very knowledgeable with HOTuners

I've had two updates since the original Trifecta group buy. The 1st update helped with a slightly touchy pedal that I could have lived with since I have an auto trans. However, with the original and 1st update the transmission would hold each gear way too long. Even with a very light foot and it would not shift into 6th below 55mph. In manual mode I could get it to shift sooner into each gear and I could get it into 6th at 42mph.

The 2nd update helped with holding each too long compared to the first but it still wants to shift at 3000+ rpm if I'm over 10% APP (accelerator pedal position). If I'm under 10% APP it shifts between 2000-2500 rpm which is fine. But this threshold needs to be changed to 20-25% because sometimes light acceleration requires a little more than 10% APP. Also it will not shift into 6th gear under 50mph with 10% or less APP. I don't use manual mode as much with this 2nd update but now in manual mode it won't shift into 6th until 47mph.

The extra power is great, I don't have any complaints about the motor. But, I would just like the trans to shift like it did when it was stock
