I had this problem with my son's car and it turned out to be the "multi-function switch". Does it stop doing it when you turn on the turn signal hit the turn signal stalk or turn on the hazard lights? Since cars don't have individual turn signal flashers in the fuse block anymore, somehow the trailer/ LED lights may have blown out the flasher assembly in the multi-function switch. this switch is the combination turn signal/wiper assembly switch on the on the steering column. https://www.superbrightleds.com/blog/led-turn-signals-blinking-too-fast-hyperflashing/275/ As far as after you unplug the trailer? Unless it affected the turn signal switch.

And what did you mean by the multi function switch? the actual stalk?
The multi function switch is the combination of turn signal and windshield wipers switches on the steering column. My son's car that had this problem is a 2005 Chevy Classic/Malibu. I am not sure what the Cruze has.

I should have also added that when I tap on the indicator stalk to change lanes or whatever that it flashes 6 times rapidly instead of the 3 normal paced flashes
That sounds like what I was referring to: The actual turn signal assembly(in the column) not functioning correctly. May be the switch was over loaded by the trailer leds?
