Being my first turbocharged engine, I'm not even sure what one looks like but I've heard the 1.4 come with one stock. By doing the resonator by-pass or an actual intake upgrade, they(other cruzers) have said it can be heard. Just waiting on the right opportunity/weather to do the by-pass on my own.

every turbocharged engine will have a BOV or BPV and a waste gate. The 1.4t only have the Forge BOV and The Forge BPV available to it. The 2 valves fit in the stock location and the BOV version requires a tune.
BPV is a recirculation valve (also what the stock one is)
BOV is a Atmospheric type so you will get the pissssss noise

If you were getting serious about it, you could get a FMIC so you could get a hard charge pipe. Have a shop weld in a bung for a (insert personal flavor here) BOV. Remove the factory BPV and insert a DDM Works blockoff plate. Any BOV would require a tune. But at this point you'd have $1500 in it (tune, blockoff plate, FMIC, BOV, bung welded in). And there's not a real benefit for these engines in doing this. But it sounds killer when you get a Synapse BOV to flutter when you let off the throttle.

I would suggest a tune (to bump the boost likely to be heard when it's released) and then a short ram intake (really lets you hear the turbo through the pipe). I was astounded at how well it could be heard after SRI, considering it was whisper quiet stock. Next I went with the ZZP downpipe (removes very restrictive stock DP and cat, gets a little more whistle and a nice blowoff noise). These mods also netted some serious torque and added much-needed driveability.

I had thought about BOV, but I see the need for retune and then a few more CELs that can often come with this switch. I'll probably go with the Forge BPV eventually, but stock wastegate seems to hold high boost well enough at the moment (~30psi). Heard of some CELs even with the Forge BPV, nothing serious, just would need to be tuned out.

Edit: see thread: http://www.cruzetalk.com/forum/129-engine-transmission/5479-how-bypass-intake-resonator.html

^^ free and gives you some noise/power/driveability

Hi I have a Australian Cruze 2lt turbo diesel and want to add a boost controller and wastegate. Has anyone else done so or can give me any tips befor I get stuck into it. Cheers
Boost controllers aren't used too much any more as most modern vehicles can simply be tuned for higher boost levels (using the factory wastegate control solenoids). Boost controllers do potentially allow for faster spool-up, but that's typically only noticed on big turbo cars.

Also, no need for a wastegate, unless you meant BOV/BPV. Still... not really needed with the stock setup unless the factory one would leak under the increase in pressure (haven't heard of this on these cars). Or, of course, you're all about making a lot of noise and causing rich conditions between shifts.

If you're set on more power/boost, look into a Trifecta tune. I expect a Black Friday sale is on the horizon and will be finally pulling the trigger on getting one.

Unless it's a s13 drift car!!! Had a buddy that ran no bov on his but it was set for straight up track. Hydro ebrake and all ;) good times

Unless he able to never let off the throttle while under boost (which is practically impossible), then he was causing unnecessary wear on the turbo's bearings. Not to mention the poor MAP/MAF trying to adjust to the massive fluttering of pressure and air flow.

In short, that pressurized air has to go somewhere when the throttle closes. Either the atmosphere (BOV), back into the charge pipe (BPV), or back out the turbo's compression wheel!
