It is very obvious that motor writers thrash the cars they test as the fuel consumption indicates constant hard driving in the turbo cars at least. Do any of the Cruze 1.6T owners on here ever get 14 litres per 100k in their car outside of driving on a racetrack?

The lightness of the VW Golf 1.4t and the DCT must pay big dividends in performance and fuel economy when considering it's lack of power, except for decent torque numbers.
Ford seems to have a good engine on their hands and their (somewhat derided and black spot on some reliability charts) DCT seems to give them great thrifty performance.
Mazda has room for improvement in their auto transmission selections.
I expected the Toyota CVT to show better fuel economy.
The trio of 1.8's are not that far off the mark, showing pretty good fuel economy along with acceptable performance.
I find the 1.6T to be pretty exciting, but along with the weight of the vehicle, somewhat dissapointed in what they got in fuel economy.
We all know that the 1.4T has some pretty cheap and easy tuning mods to make it much more of a hoot!
It is just a great time in the car industry with great choices all around.
