Cheap LEDs get hot

Technically all LEDs get hot. The housings are designed to dissipate that heat. Their inability to do so reduces output, which is why 99% of LED advertised output ratings are complete BS.

Yes and no. All LEDs create heat. Some do a better job of dissipating heat and as a result are cooler. Regardless, it shouldn't turn into a charred mess like that one example.

Better LEDs have a driver to control the current.
