Not that I didn't have sun/moonroofs before, sound more like a mechanical problem with electrical, wouldn't work at all.
Tracks have be be kept cleaned, also drains can be plugged up. Most use an exposed worm drive shaft that can be coated with debris that also has to be cleaned and lubricated.
Older vehicles use to be equipped with a hand crank, see on the new ones, they dropped this important item, really screwed with a dead battery. Did you Cruze come with a hand crank?
Not only the roof, would be also nice for a hand crank for power windows, ha, always think twice before lowering one, may never come back up again. Use to be all high current switches, now BCM with code stored in flashram and point contact relays.
Old doors never head wires going to them, now tons of wires, and the cheapest they can find, also think twice about opening a door in subzero weather, that cheap plastic really gets hard. And when it does, can snap into two.
