Cruze cruises to best-ever February sales

Published: Mon, March 3, 2014 @ 10:20 a.m.

DETROIT — The Chevrolet Cruze posted its best February on record, as sales increased by 21.7 percent last month as compared to last February.

General Motors sold 21,836 units of the Lordstown-built compact in February, compared to 17,947 during the same month in 2013. Sales for the first two months of the year were up 19 percent, with 38,664 units sold.

February sales across all of GM’s brands slid by 1 percent in a year-over-year comparison. The automaker delivered 222,104 vehicles in the United States last month, compared to 224,314 last February.

Retail and fleet sales were both down 1 percent.

“Despite a slower start to 2014 than most people expected, we look forward to a very successful year,” Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president of sales operations said in a statement.

“Weather continued to impact the industry in February, but GM sales started to thaw during the Winter Olympic Games as our brand and marketing messages took hold,” he said.

Cruze, Sonic & Malibu sales surge

The Chevrolet Cruze, Sonic and Malibu posted double-digit sales increases in Feb 2014

The Cruze was the month's second best-selling compact car, about 3,500 units behind the Toyota Corolla but ahead of the No.3 Honda Civic, No.4 Hyundai Elantra and No.5 Ford Focus.

And this is why we don't see a lot of advertising or discounts for the Cruze and Sonic. GM literally can't make them fast enough to meet the demand.

And surprise of surprises ...
Consumer Reports recommends the Sonic sedan as a 'Best Buy' in their latest annual automobile issue.

A Star Ascendent, GM's Cruze Delivers for the General

GM literally can't make (the Cruze) fast enough to meet demand.
Cruze sales hot despite cold weather

Sales of the locally built Chevy Cruze in February again outpaced all other General Motors cars as the vehicle marked its best February ever with 21,836 deliveries, the auto manufacturer announced Monday. The Cruze managed not to fall victim to February's brutal weather negatively impacting auto sales industry wide.

Lordstown workers on overtime to meet demand

LORDSTOWN, Ohio - Employees at the General Motors assembly plant here will be working two more shifts to keep up with demand for the Chevrolet Cruze. According to the UAW local 1112 web site, all three shifts will be working on the assembly line Saturday March, 15th and March 29th. On Monday, General Motors reported February Cruze sales up 21 percent compared to the same period one year ago. GM says it was the best February sales figures on record for the small car.

GM to invest $14 million at Parma plant
Metal Center produces parts for locally built Cruze

PARMA - General Motors will invest $14 million at its Parma Metal Center, which produces parts for virtually every North American GM vehicle, including the locally built Chevy Cruze. This in addition to another recent major investment at Parma which included $20 million to support the build of the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze.

While GM has remained mum on a launch date for the new Cruze, analysts and other sources have predicted the launch will come in time for the 2016 model year.

February 2014 Compact Sales

Chevrolet Cruze upset the Honda Civic last month, jumping from third to second with 21,836 sold.
Dodge Dart and Volkswagen Golf sales continue to tank as both cars appear to be non-players in this important segment.

Certainly not bad for the oldest car in the segment.

If it weren't for big increases in sales of the Cruze, Sonic, and Malibu, GM's numbers would have been awful. The Silverado and Impala sales are down significantly YTD vs 2013. I would venture a guess the Impala sales are down because perhaps 2013 includes fleet sales of the old model, but the "new" Silverado seems to be a total failure. Emergency redsign a.l.a. 2013 Malibu?
