The check engine light came on my Cruze 2013 1.6L Turbo and when I checked the error codes it was P0171 (System Too Lean (Bank 1) , I suspected PCV valve. I got the car serviced at the dealer and asked them to check it out and they also came back and said its the stuck open PCV valve.

I know the **** valve is molded onto the cam cover and a genuine valve cover is $800 AUD . I have seen aftermarket valve covers for this model online for around $100.

My question is has anyone replaced theirs with aftermarket one and do they fit well & long lasing ?

or do I have to bite the bullet and spend $800 on a genuine one ?

I know nothing about the 1.6L.

That being said,

I do know that on the 1.4L (LUJ), the valve cover needs to be OEM because the aftermarket ones are crap.

And to add to what JLL said, the PCV valve on the 1.4 is in the intake and at the turbo. (two of them) The PCV regulator is in the valve/camshaft cover.

1.6L engine is slightly different to 1.4L in the video , but i guess PCV system must be the same . will have a closer look to see if I can identify the check valves

yes the PVC is inside the rocker cover , I've seen a video where it can be separated from the rocker cover body . if thats the case then I can replace just the PCV regulator .

I bought a after market valve cover from e-bay for $50. It arrived today, Will fit it in soon and see how it goes. Much cheaper than $700 from the dealer ! but dont know how long its going to last! I guess only one way to find out

I replaced the valve cover today. It was pretty straight forward. the old gasket was so stiff and like plastic. it snapped when squeezed, spark plug wells were full of oil as oil was leaking into them for a while now. cleaned it all up and put the new cover which fitted in nicely then torqued the bolts to the spec .

So it is the vacuum regulator in the valve cover. Does the rest of the PCV system look to be the same as the 1.6? If so you may be able to use a fixkit to help ward off a future failure as on the 1.4 the valve cover failure is just one of the symptoms of a PCV failure.

yes its the valve (diaphragm) inside the valve cover. the 1.6L PCV system appear to be different from 1.4. I dont think it has the check valve in the intake manifold like the 1.4.
