Hi,

I recently completed my test drives of all the cars in the compact class and have narrowed my choice down to either the 2013 Cruze 2LT Auto or the NEW 2014 KIA Forte EX, with 173HP, Direct Injection. Have any of you guys here seen
the new re-designed Forte for 2014? The new Forte has a lot of things going for it that I love in the Cruze....relatively conservative styling, VERY smooth, compliant ride. The Forte EX will fall short a bit with MPG with the bigger 2.0 liter, 173HP,
but it accelerates so smooth and seamless shifts for the automatic.
The 2LT Auto is also more expensive.

So I am just wondering what car would be the more reliable and lower cost of ownership over a 10 year period?

Thanks

Kia and Reliability have never really been in the same sentence. The new ones haven't been around long enough yet to be deemed reliable.

Get the Cruze, you will get WAY better MPG more than EPA estimates with the Manual. Great interior styling, and it has a very BIG community backing it up, so you will get the help, and come on admit it, it looks better ;-)

I think you are may be thinking and judging the 2013 Forte. The 2014 is ALL new and redesigned with a MUCH nicer interior and exterior styling and quality and ride
comfort. Watch a few of the professional You Tube reviews and you will see a HUGE improvement. The 2014 KIA just won the Motor Trend compact shoot out and
came in number 1, beating the Civic, Dodge Dart, Mazda 3 and Nissan Sentra. The Big Test: Compact Sedans - Motor Trend

As far as KIA's not being reliable, Consumer Reports recommends both the Optima and new Forte as best buys and both are rated
as "average" reliability, the exact same rating as the Cruze!

As much as we're partial to the Cruze here, get the car you like better.

Spacedout...TRUE, thats a great point and something to seriously consider. However, im fortunate to live in an area in NJ with at least 3 KIA
dealers within 20 miles or so, but I really dont travel far much.

I am still undecided, BUT it will be either the 2013 Cruze 2LT or the 2014 KIA Forte EX thats for sure.

What bugs me about the Cruze is the cheesy silver plastic trim around the console and shifter, compared to the Forte with new soft touch black. The Forte interior,
to me, feels a bit more cozy and inviting.

Ok, a few things to note. Comparing the horsepower and torque numbers on the two cars directly isn't the best method. Because of the Cruze's small turbo setup, low end torque is the name of the game. Peak torque comes on quickly so the car feels a lot better than its numbers indicate. For example, I cross shopped with a 2.5 Mazda3. The Mazda had much more horsepower, but I preferred the low end torque of the Cruze. It fits my needs better the majority of the time. But it can be lacking in 'go' at the top end. Another thought to take into account is that I don't think Kia and Hyundai get their power numbers SAE certified. GM does. What does that mean to you? Well, Hyundai has been known to inflate their numbers, so judge how the car actually feels than the number on the window. If you learn the turbo and adjust your driving accordingly, the Cruze can consistently get great real world fuel economy as has been shown time and again. If you are heavy with your foot after every stop, then you will pay for it dearly at the pump because of the turbocharger. It really depends on what type of drive you prefer, I wouldn't take the reviewer's opinion as law. See what you like better.

get the one that has the better dealer. my girlf just bought a 13 hyundai elentra coupe. it isn't rated quite as high on mpg as my cruze eco auto but the seats are miles better and the tranny is way better behaved than my cruze. i only went with cruze because of the dealer but i'm having second thoughts about doing so. cruze is ok but far from great.

**** even with my foot buried in the floor I do at least 26 in the city XD

But in all seriousness I can't see getting any Kia except the Optima but that's just my opinion as far as styling goes with the 2, The Cruze has better styling imo and the little 1.4t should have better aftermarket support from what it sounds like if you're comparing HP numbers that might be something you're interested in... possibly? The MPG like stated above is going to be a lot better as well especially if you look into one of the manual Cruze if you decide to go with an auto I still think that your MPG will be far superior than in the Forte .
