Dealer Price Matching

Hello Everyone,

After a search of the forum, I could not find the answer to my question. I am planning to have a few options installed from my local dealer including fog lights, the rear lip spoiler, and the door sill plates. After searching multiple Northern Ohio dealers' websites, I've noticed that the prices with installation are anywhere from $30-$80 cheaper for various items. Would my home dealer (with the higher prices) match the other dealers' offers? Although now after writing this, I am having trouble locating the fog lights on any of the dealer accessory pages. The only dealer that it still comes up on is my original, more expensive dealer.

Yeah haven't heard much talk about that here but dealers are just like any store, mention the competition and you get their attention. Selling something for slightly less (or the same price) is better than not selling it at all.
Well that's if you get someone who cares about their workplace and is high up enough to matter.

Walked into home depot today asked for a manager to get 10% off and they weren't having it. Said thank you and went across the street. Ran into a manager as I walked in, mentioned I was comparing prices on some things. Gave me 10%, free shipping to my house instead of the store and a 10% card for next visit. Difference between an unhappy employee and someone who's work depends on how their store is viewed.

As far as those items are concerned, I'd recommend doing some googling as i'm sure you may find cheaper somewhere other than the dealer.

Good luck.
It's definitely worth a shot. A good dealer will want to keep you for service after the sale, so price matching on the dealer installed options is actually a good business decision for them. Dealers make the bulk of their money on service, not car sales.
My local dealer does match it, its just a matter of how important they view they customer in the service side...
That Chevy build your own site does leave some things to be desired, like exactly what accessories come standard with the model you have chosen. Some really obvious ones, does your vehicle come with cruise control and AC, two options I definitely need to have. But this site does list your options such as those sill plates, fog lamps, and spoiler.

With that sheet of paper printed out, one dealer got on some website and printed out a seven page specification sheet listing all the options, even the cup holders.

I assume all Chevy dealers have access to this particular site, but have to admit, a couple of dealers I went to were really lazy. But can only guess amount of potential customers they have to deal with, with zero results.

Regarding prices, wasn't afraid to show my quote collection to a number of dealers, the one I favored said we can do better than all of them.

They say it never hurts to ask, but sometimes that answer hurts really bad. But many times when I started to walk out the door, that answer became very positive.

That's how it's done! I walked into an Office Depot to get a nice office chair for my wife. Asked the manager if there are any additional discounts available, he said no. I then went online and found a $20 off $100 coupon if I order online and pick up in-store. Asked the manager if he'd give me $20 off or if I had to actually place the order on my phone while standing in the store. He said sure. Ended up giving me 20% off instead of $20 and free shipping to get the chair to my house since they didn't have it in stock; only a display model.

This is also how I bought the Cruze. Went to 5 chevy dealerships in the area. Some were willing to negotiate, others weren't. The closest dealer to my house prides themselves in being the best selling chevy dealership in the state, Phillips Chevy. Every time we walked in, they tried to sell me a Cruze with the convenience package. I told them I was very limited on budget and wanted it cheap and the salesman and manager didn't bother to tell me about the Silver Eco they had on the lot without that. Ended up going to Bill Jacobs Chevy and got the car for invoice price minus $500 for GM loyalty.

Put a huge dent in the first dealership's pride when they discovered they lost the sale to a smaller (and based on their attitude, inferior) dealership. When my buddy wanted to buy a Cruze Eco for himself, they pulled the exact same stunt trying to sell him an Eco with driver convenience, floor mats, and cargo net, and he ended up taking them for a ride with negotiations for 2 hours after going back to the dealership I bought mine from and buying the car for a few hundred bucks less from them.

I wonder what will happen if another friend of ours wants to buy a Cruze and we show up telling them they'll lose a 3rd sale to a smaller rival dealership nearby if they don't cut the crap and try to sell us what we need instead what they want to sell us.

I've walked out of more than one dealership over the years when they tried to sell me something I didn't want. I have also walked out when they set me up for one vehicle and then come back and say "sorry that is the next model year and we can't sell it for the price you were quoted."
The prices all deals with the dealers. It varies. Try to find the dealer selling with the reasonable amount.
To learn about how to wheel and deal, could watch programs like Fast N' Loud, American Pickers, or Pawn Stars, American Restoration fits in there too. But have no idea what these programs have to do with science or history.

If they don't teach anything, least teach you to avoid people like this.

Why do most dealers have bankers hours, nice being retired now, never had the opportunity to car shop or any kind of shopping when working 12-15 hours per day. Closed on Sundays, during normal working ours, walk into a dealership, and the only one there.

Then invoice pricing, if you look at the overhead, guys sitting around most of the day doing nothing, property taxes are outrageous, no way are they grossing a hundred bucks selling a car. Back then it was 30% on the base price of the car, 50% on accessories, sure they have to make a living. Salesman make a minimum wage, but mostly based on commissions, they have to sell to eat.

One line I like to use, making 20% of something is a lot better than making 50% of nothing, works sometimes, if it doesn't, there is a door to walk out of. Works 80% of the time.

Price matching would be on an individual basis but I'm pretty sure if you took in a print-out of the lower priced dealer's prices the one closest to you would most likely match it. They would be crazy not to if it's not some insanely low price that would cause them to lose money. We will take a skinny margin any time to keep a competitor from getting a customer's business.
The dealer I bought my car from "beat out" the other dealer I was going to buy it from by $500 after I'd talked the other dealer down by a bit. Unfortunately, they were so slow with the paperwork, it took me nearly a whole day to buy the thing.

Get a quote from one, and then head to another and see if they can beat that price.
