Thanks everyone. The only real thing I did was keep the cruze control (hah) on and leave the air condition off. Otherwise it was normal driving.

Don't drive at a constant speed for too long during break in period its not a good idea.
I didn't know this. Any reason for it? I commute to work so this is going to be hard not to do but I'll do my best.

It's a 2013 Canadian Cruze. Good eye ****. I'm already on Fuelly and I was expecting to be 5-6 MPG worse than the DIC. I also track with a Scangauge which I can adjust to tell me true gas mileage. I'll be filling up for the first time today. I've personally put 385 miles on the car myself and it wasn't quite full when I got it. The gas light is still not on. After that I'll start using fuelly to track my mpg.

Oh thanks for all the tips guys. Does anyone happen to know how many liters the eco has left (roughly) when the gas light comes on?

I don't even use onstar to be honest... I only used it once to navigate me somewhere :) She revs it to 3000 which I don't do when I hypermile. I basically always shift at or just above 2000, even less in some gears. Her drive is pretty hilly though so I can't blame her. Though when I drove it to her work I still managed to get 47MPG lol. We will see what happens when I inflate the tires to 45psi and it breaks in a little bit.

Yea. I've tried but she has little interest. To her a car is simply an appliance designed to be used in ways that she wants and requires no special attention lol. For example her minivan gets about 16 MPG because she really doesn't care at all about mileage (tons of idling). I've been trying to explain to her it's an easy place to save a hundred or so dollars a month because we typically use a lot of gas (my commute and her idling lol). I'll get through to her eventually. I have to admit she was asking a few questions about how to get better gas mileage the other day and I was thoroughly impressed with her.

This car is just too easy to hypermile though. This is my commute to work:

The way home really sucked because there was a huge storm I was driving through so my average dropped to 50.1. I'm going to try and get it back over 55 on my commute to work today see what happens :)

Yea they do but mine are inflated to around 45 PSI. I'm going to take them to 51 psi (written on sidewall as max) when I get a little more comfortable. Second fill up was 44.2 :)

I found the ride a little too squishy at 35. But I like feeling some of the road and drove my civic with a solid mount for a while (talk about vibration)

Well my driving is mostly highway. I personally average closer to 50MPG problem is every time my wife gets into it it drops by 5 or a little more. I hypermile every time I drive it to maximize what I get. Cruze control kills mileage on the highway on this car I've noticed so I don't use it.

I got pretty drunk last night and the wife was driving me home after the wedding. She was in fourth gear doing 35MPH revving at whatever it revs at (2000) or so ... I bit my tongue but I just wanted to scream "IT HAS TWO MORE GEARS YOU KNOW". She was doing it for like 5 minutes... !!! Oh well.. I'll never get 50MPG with that going on.

Hypermiling I think has no detrimental effect on the car. It just basically means driving with fuel economy as one of the top priorities (after safety, of course). Generally driving the speed limit and using everything else in your arsenal to save gas (check the forum, tons of hypermiling tip threads on here)

^ Awesome stuff. I use the same displays but I use the game display the least. I try to stay on the instant MPG as much as possible because that' shwere you learn the most about how much the gas pedal affects MPG. Just staying on that screen I have gained 3-4 MPG in the city. I have my Scangauge that tells me my average anyway and I have my gauge tuned that it tells me what the DIC is doing, only its even more accurate (last fillup DIC was 1.5MPG off or so and Scangauge was right on.

If I use DFCO mode in the city properly I can easily hit 40 MPG unless I hit a storm of red lights.

I'm averaging 44.7MPG on the DIC currently with some highway driving coming up. I should be able to get it to around 46 or 47. I'm going to go for the 500 mile tank this time around ;) I believe I'm about 200 miles in.

Just pumped my tires up again. Last time I did them I had driven the car a ways to the gas station. I inflated them to 47 PSI which cold was only 43. Today I took them up to 49 cold. Going to see what the drive is like and then maybe go up to 51. I saw a pretty good MPG gain from 35-43 hopefully this will be the same!
