I fuel up on a daily basis and I notice when my DIC shows 57 mpg after 370 miles its actually about 51.5 mpg at the pump. So the DIC is consistantly optimistic by about 5-6 mpg from my own experience.
HellonEarth made a good point. I believe the break in period is about 500 miles or so and during this time the cruze manual advises against fast acceleration, consistant speeds and downshifting. Following the break in period engine speed and load can gradually be increased.
