Visually they are definitely different. Looks like they went to a manifold to flange design. Wondering what other specifications changed? Would the gen 2 manifold bolt up to a gen 1? I wonder if it would be an upgrade? Looks like they go relatively cheap used on ebay

Find a local guy that rebuilds them.

I had a guy rebuild at the time my cummins ISX turbo for $1500. Kenworth wanted $4500 for supposedly new but turns out to be reman.

Gen2 has no ex manifold. The turbo bolts directly to the head.

Other than displacement the genI and genII are entirely different engines.....no common parts between the two.
Add to that, the genI is a cast iron block with aluminum head.....genII is all aluminum.

I'm curious... Does any vendors plan on making an exhaust manifold for the Gen 1? I mean, it just seems like someone would be doing, because there will for sure be buyers. Even something basic that will let us have some more choices in aftermarket turbos.
