Overlapping panels use a combination of spot welds and a weld through adhesive called panel bond......I think that is what you see and it becomes hard.
Same product is used to hold the door skins to the frames.....spot welding in that area hasn't been used for several years.
Any time a panel in spot welded during construction or panels are mated, panel bond is used to seal the weld from moisture.
This because once metal is heated (as in a spot weld) it has a high propensity for corrosion at the spot.....this eliminates the concern.
