New to the group not to the Cruze.

We have a 2012 LT1 that we bought new in January 2012. Loved the car when we first got it, and still like it when everything is working correctly.

We have had numerous problems with this car. Right now I am chasing down a P0442 code. Again. Last time it was still under warranty. The dealer replaced the valve cover for the 3rd time and that fixed it.

Well my wife got an oil change a couple weeks ago and they told her the oil fill cap was bad but they didn't have one in stock.

Then this weekend the CEL came on with code P0442.

I went to another dealer and bought a oil fill cap yesterday to see if it was leaking by. I replaced it yesterday and of course the CEL hasn't gone off yet because she hasn't driven it enough.

If this doesn't do it, what else should i look for? The gas cap is good.

Thank you.

Welcome Welcome to CT :eek:ccasion14:

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes with the Cruze. I hope you have a clean slate going forward with it. I don't know much about your issue, is that code related to oil at all? Sorry can't be much help, my Cruze is fairly new. But I'm sure someone will come help you out with more concrete info and insight. GL!
Welcome to the forum, I too have not had too much experience with this issue personally, so I can't provide much help either, but this is a very active forum with many knowledgeable people willing to help. How many miles are on the car?
PO442 is an evaporative emission small leak code associated with your fuel vapour system. Typically the loose GAS cap is the common issue. The system does a selftest when the car has set certain conditions including off time and tank fuel level. It will do a pressure test on the evaporative system and then evaluate leakdown. I had a similar problems on other cars and had t replace corroded lines near the tank.

I have yet to make the connection with this code and your engine valve cover, I know that that a faultly PCV system will flag codes and has been associated with your frequently replaced valve cover.
