Hello everyone I'm new to the forums. I have owned my cruze for 1 and a half years and have loved the thing. So today as I was driving around I had the check engine light on and I pulled a p0171 with no other codes to go by. As I got back to the house I check the stft and the ltft.. the ltft was at 34.1% and stft was 14.1 so I revved it to about 2k RPM and got a reading for the ltft at 33.6 and stft at -7.8. I'm not sure where to start looking/ replacing at this point due to the LTFT being so high. I've read anything over a 25 is a lean indicator. Any tips to go on would be great!

(( I do not have a fog machine but I have a spray bottle I could add water or soap to help find leaks. ))

Unfortunately, there are many possible causes for lean conditions.

What are the Possible Causes of the P0171 Code?
  • Dirty or Restricted Air Filter
  • Dirty or Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
  • Intake Air Leaks
  • Exhaust Gas Leaks
  • Fuel Contamination
  • Faulty or Clogged Fuel Injectors
  • Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor
  • Ignition Misfiring
  • Low Fuel Pressure
  • Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Hose Leaks
I recommend starting with cleaning your MAF sensor. (y)
