Hey everyone,

As the title says," how do you get hyper flash". I have been trying hard recently to get tail lights or tail lamps that are bright and have hyper flash in them. Seeing as those two ventures went down in a ball of fire ( not literally) i want to see if anyone has a good idea or product that might help me out here,


I recently purchased putco LED brake lights bulb replacement with hyper flash. But they were sent WITHOUT hyper flash and were ( if possible) 70% dimmer then stock OEM bulbs. Those are listed as a "failed attempt".

If anyone has any other ideas or things to look into let me know. I am currently doing research into adding something to the loom that will cause any bulb that is installed to hyper flash.



ps: just so it is said, i want them to flash for a bit then go solid, not continuously flash.

The problem with those bulbs is they do not shine light back into the reflector and you end up with just the pin-hole light look. Not good obviously.

I don't really have anything to offer in terms of help here though.

Let me get this straight. You want your turn signals to hyper flash for just a bit, then go solid as if you turned the turn signal off? 1) that sounds counter productive, 2) that is unsafe, 3) hyper flashing is what your car does when it thinks a bulb is burned out.

The reason LEDs usually hyper flash is they do not draw enough power to make the car think a bulb is there, hence the car thinks it is burned out and it hyper flashes. There is nothing you can "add" per-say to the wiring to make it do this. There is, however, things you can add to the wiring to prevent it from hyper flashing.

so you want your brake lights to act like some 3rd brake / brake light bars do where they flash a bit then stay solid?
1) the only lights that can possibly hyperflash are the turn signals. the reason they hyperflash is because the flasher module is made for regular bulbs that draw a lot more power than leds, so when they detect low current draw they go into hyperflash mode.
2) unless you modify some sort of components the brake lights will never flash in any manner like turn signals.
take it from me, i only have 2 incandescent lights left on my car and they're my headlights and the only differences that happen are the brighter and richer color, the instant on/off of the lights, and hyperflashing turn signals. other than that its exactly the same.

no i want my brakes to hyper flash... they have them out there i have seen them before, but now i cant find them. They have it normaly for car racing and ems vehicles...

turn signals do not hyper flash, they just blink.

I know hyper flash is a problem with lights, but again some lights ( even some taillights i am looking at) have hyper flash. I was curious to whether anyone else had done it if so how had they done it.

so basically you want like the 3rd brake light in this video except you want the brake bulbs to do it instead

also your blinkers wont hyperflash with regular bulbs, only if you have led turn bulbs will which i dont think you said you have

yes, not that pattern, but yes thats it... i DID have LEDs back there, but thye FAILED... i mean it was a epic fail. many reasons, well two

1. They were foward facing lights, so they did not reflect at all
2. they were red with a red lens on.... that doesn't work.

thats what i thought. like i said just installing leds wont make your brakes flash, your brakes can not flash unless you modify your wiring with some component that makes flashing happen (dont ask me i have no idea). if they could flash then they would be flashing in the first place with regular bulbs.
the reason that those 3rd brakes flash is because while they are hooked up the the brake light line, the assembly has a circuit that makes them flash like that.
if you want brighter bulbs, i just changed my old leds with "plasma" style leds and they are sooo much brighter. if you check out my post with pictures youll see how good they look. the bases are white but the leds are colored. when you use white in a colored housing the color is dull and slightly dimmer than using the correctly colored bulb. for example, i used white leds in my front and back sidemarkers and now instead of the back being red and front being yellow they are now amber and orange respectively. not a big deal to me, but just so you know.

Turn signals only hyper flash if LEDs are in place without a load resister. Since LEDs draw less power than standard bulbs the computer thinks a bulb is burnt out, and triggers the hyper flash to alert the driver to check bulbs.

If you want a strobe effect on your brake lights you will need a controller to do that.

I knew some LEDs had issue with hyper flash b.c they draw too little for the car to recognize. but i like the idea of a bit of strobe effect...i hear alot of ppl getting rear ended, trying to fix it a bit

Not, they're not legal.

Additionally, you legally cannot change any external light. Replacing a halogen for an LED, changing the color, changing the housing, adding aftermarket fog lights - anything that changes the lighting from stock is illegal.

Will you get pulled over ONLY for a lighting thing? Probably not (unless it's a burned out bulb, fail to signal, etc)
Will you get ticketed ONLY for a lighting thing? Probably not (again, unless it's a burned out bulb, fail to signal, etc)
If you're speeding, run a stop sign, fail to signal, run over a grandma, AND you have hyperflash/strobing brakelight/etc - then yes that will most likely get tacked on your ticket.

Also, @kfr291- I think you're misusing the term hyperflash which led to the confusion we had. Hyperflash is typically used when refering to the side effects of LEDs. What you're referring to is simply strobing, which has been around forever and isn't a new technology.

everywhere i have looked for these hyper flash was the term they used, even the techostalia tail lights list them that way
